Location: Minneapolis-Saint Paul (MSP), Minnesota
Department: Customer Support / Field Service
Reports To: Optomec Management

Position Summary

Optomec is seeking a highly motivated, customer-focused Support Engineer to support its industry-leading Aerosol Jet Additive Manufacturing Systems. This position reports directly to Optomec Management and serves as a key technical resource responsible for customer support, system troubleshooting, installation assistance, training, maintenance, and field service activities.
 

The successful candidate will work directly with customers to ensure successful operation of Optomec equipment, proactively identify and resolve technical issues, and provide world-class support throughout the customer lifecycle. The role requires a hands-on technical professional who is eager to learn new hardware, software, manufacturing processes, and applications while promoting the Optomec brand through exceptional customer engagement and technical expertise.

Primary Responsibilities

Provide first-line and advanced technical support for Aerosol Jet systems via phone, email, remote access, and onsite visits.
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, software, process, and application-related issues.
Perform equipment installations, commissioning, calibration, upgrades, and preventive maintenance.
Deliver customer training on system operation, maintenance, software usage, and best practices.
Support customers with process optimization and production readiness.
Document service activities, corrective actions, and troubleshooting procedures.
Collaborate with Engineering, Applications, Manufacturing, and Management teams to resolve customer issues.
Assist in developing service manuals, training materials, and technical documentation.
Escalate product issues and provide detailed feedback to support continuous product improvement.
Represent Optomec at customer sites, trade shows, demonstrations, and industry events.

Requirements

Technical Qualifications

Associate or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Technology, or related field.
Equivalent military or industry experience will be considered.
Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
Understanding of electromechanical systems, automation equipment, and industrial controls.
Ability to interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation.
Experience working with industrial equipment, robotics, automation systems, or manufacturing equipment is preferred.

Preferred Skills

Familiarity with Autodesk Fusion 360 and/or Autodesk PowerMill software.
Experience with CAD/CAM software and manufacturing workflows.
Experience with additive manufacturing, 3D printing, printed electronics, semiconductor processing, or advanced manufacturing technologies.
Knowledge of motion control systems, pneumatics, vacuum systems, sensors, and machine controls.
Experience with Windows-based software systems and networking fundamentals.
