Job Description
  • The Compliance Analyst & Technical Editor must complete an extensive three-week training period beginning on day one of employment
  • Review, analyze, and edit classified and unclassified DOD issuances (policy documents) for clarity, format, consistency, and compliance with DOD guidance and procedures
  • Perform full editorial duties in connection with the development and review of DoD issuances:
    • Review issuance packages for grammar, syntax, and adherence to Plain Language requirements.
    • Review issuance packages for compliance with DoD issuance formatting standards.
  • Coordinate with Subject Matter Experts (SME) on all DoD issuance processing stages:
    • Work with government personnel inside and outside of the division to move issuances through the review and publication process and resolve issues that arise
  • Review draft reports submitted by authors: o Edit the initial draft and create publication instructions for the author/contractor
    • Send edited draft and publication instructions to the author/contractor for revisions
    • Validate and ensure quality control over all aspects of the policy documents
  • Ensure accurate records through all stages of the editing process
  • Verify redactions and exemptions to ensure proper protection of classified information
  • Update and maintain correspondence guidelines, SOPs, and trainings
  • Track policy documents in database through all stages of the technical editing process
  • Verify scientific and technical notations as well as security classification markings to ensure markings coincide with instructions
  • Provide recommendations for process improvement of the publication and tracking systems
  • Prepare and submit input to various issuance status reports
  • Adhere to security requirements for working in a classified space and with classified material
  • Assist with updating internal and external guidance and reference materials
  • Analyze documents to determine classification level and identify document markings
  • Recognize possible nuclear weapons and intelligence information
  • Lead special projects and training in support of the DoD Issuance Program and the Directives Division
  • Use classified network to review classified issuance packages and communicate with action officers
  • Maintain/complete regular training requirements for handling classified information
  • Properly handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) on the unclassified network (e.g., not sharing information with those who don't have a need-to-know, not transmitting working (or other CUI) material via unauthorized communications

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in English related field or a minimum of two years of editorial and writing experience
  • Active DOD Top Secret clearance
  • Ability to communicate effectively - both orally and in writing - and work with little to no supervision
  • Possess excellent customer service skills to adequately handle the needs of government leadership, SMEs, and stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to effectively coordinate with multiple offices within ESD and WHS
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience with SharePoint, HPE Records Management, and Tableau Desktop desired
  • Detail-oriented with ability to work in a high pressure environment handling sensitive and classified information while meeting multiple deadlines

Salary range for this position is $65,000-$70,000 annually.
