Familiarity with editing software such as Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and proofreading tools like Grammarly is also important. Job description

As an Editor-at-Large I, you will coordinate with reporters, editors, and outside authors to direct work and boost the quality of our writing, contributed content, and idea development. You will polish stories so that they perform well on all our platforms and on the Bloomberg Terminal. Sometimes that means being a player-coach and diving right into the copy, and sometimes that means being a mentor to editors who coordinate news coverage, provide insight on newsletters, talk through stories, and then deliver a stand-out headline.

What you will do:

  • Coordinate with reporters, editors, and outside authors to produce stories that inform and delight our audiences.
  • Exercise independent judgment and manage stories from pitch to publication, improve stories post-publication as necessary.
  • Coordinate coverage with a focus on finding news insights and breaking news that contributes to the news team's strategy and improves writing and reporting skills when possible.
  • Help manage assignments as necessary and deliver feedback on stories and reporting that is constructive and thoughtful, often on tight deadlines.
  • Drive staff to try new things and continue digging into big stories. Exemplify professionalism and news judgment as an editor and provide continuity across the newsroom.
  • Manage special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

You need to have:

  • Minimum 8+ years' experience as an editor and/or manager in a news role.
  • You should show a record of success in identifying, developing, and publishing terrific stories.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Effective change-management skills and ability to lead a nimble and change ready organization.
  • Quality editing, writing and story-management skills. Ability to help conceptualize graphics and provide input on engagement strategies.
  • Exceptional curiosity and news judgment to unpack complicated legal, tax, and government actions and help reporters and contributors make them interesting.
  • Knowledge of digital news and information publishing operations.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, and ability to apply those skills under tight deadlines.
  • Strong and thoughtful decision-making capabilities.
  • A desire to develop relationships and influence news reporting and editing on a large scale.
