At RAWSO Constructors, were looking for motivated, hardworking individuals to join our team as Field Engineers. This role is designed as a field leadership development position, focused on building the skills, experience, and mindset needed to lead crews and manage field operations. This is not a project management or office-based track.

This is an opportunity to get a head start in your career by learning directly from experienced field leaders while gaining real-world experience in labor, equipment operations, and jobsite execution.

Position Summary

The Field Engineer is an entry-level field leadership role designed for individuals pursuing a long-term career in heavy civil field management.


This position is 100% field-focused, providing hands-on experience in construction operations, crew support, equipment usage, and production execution. The Field Engineer will work closely with Foremen and Superintendents to learn how work is planned, executed, and managed in the field.


This role is not a Project Engineer or office-based position. The Field Engineer will be expected to actively participate in physical work, learn equipment operations, and develop leadership skills through direct field experience.


Key Responsibilities

Field Operations & Crew Support

  • Work alongside crews performing general labor tasks to understand construction processes
  • Assist Foremen and Superintendents in daily field operations and production activities
  • Support layout, grading, pipe installation, and other heavy civil construction tasks
  • Help ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards

Equipment & Hands-On Learning

  • Learn to operate heavy equipment (excavators, dozers, loaders, rollers, etc.) under supervision
  • Perform basic equipment checks and assist with routine maintenance activities
  • Support equipment operators and understand machine capabilities and limitations

Leadership Development

  • Observe and learn how Foremen lead crews, manage production, and solve problems
  • Assist in coordinating crews, materials, and equipment in the field
  • Begin developing communication and decision-making skills required for field leadership
  • Take initiative in identifying problems and supporting solutions on the jobsite

Jobsite Coordination

  • Help track daily production and field progress
  • Assist with material staging, logistics, and jobsite organization
  • Communicate effectively with crews, supervisors, and other team members

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations
  • Promote a strong safety culture on the jobsite
  • Participate in safety meetings and daily jobsite planning

Qualifications

  • Strong interest in pursuing a field-based career path in heavy civil construction
  • Willingness to perform physical labor and learn equipment operation
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and positive attitude
  • Ability to take direction and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Valid drivers license required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly
  • Ability to bend, climb, kneel, and work around heavy machinery
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions
