Overview
The Drafter I role supports engineering and design teams by producing high-quality construction drawings and mapping products using AutoCAD and GIS-based tools. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals beginning their drafting career and looking to build technical skills in a supportive, collaborative environment. Working from redlines, sketches, and field information, the Drafter I will help develop alignment sheets, plan and profile drawings, base maps, and other project deliverables while learning established drafting standards and procedures. A dedicated mentor will guide professional development, ensuring steady growth toward greater independence and responsibility within the drafting discipline. This position may be based out of any company office within the Central or Eastern U.S. time zones.
Responsibilities
  • Create and modify construction drawings using AutoCAD and GIS-based software.
  • Produce alignment sheets, plan and profile drawings, and construction details as needed.
  • Prepare and update base maps to support project planning and design.
  • Work from redlines, sketches, and verbal instruction, with the expectation to grow toward more independent and autonomous drafting over time.
  • Incorporate as-built information, field markups, and existing utility data into design updates.
  • Maintain accuracy and consistency while following established drafting standards and company procedures.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project managers to support project workflow.
  • Participate in training and skill development activities; a mentor will be provided to guide technical growth and ensure successful progression in the role.

Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
    Certificates in CAD, Drafting, or Design from accredited programs are also acceptable.
  • 0-4 years of drafting experience; suitable for entry-level candidates.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for 2D drafting.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with GIS-based tools (training available).
  • Strong attention to detail with solid analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Willingness to learn, develop skills, and advance drafting responsibilities over time.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
