About the Role
The Data Visualization Specialist supports Head Start and Early Head Start programs by transforming complex data into clear, actionable visual products that support program oversight, grant administration, operational planning, and data-driven decision-making. Working closely with federal staff and project teams, this role develops dashboards, reports, presentations, infographics, and other data visualization tools that communicate key trends, performance metrics, and insights. The position collaborates with stakeholders to translate business needs and analytical findings into effective visual communications, while supporting reporting, strategic planning, continuous improvement, and organizational efforts to improve outcomes for children and families.

How You Contribute to the Team:
  • Design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards, infographics, scorecards, and data visualization products that support operational reporting, performance monitoring, and strategic decision-making
  • Transform large and complex datasets into clear, visually compelling narratives that communicate trends, patterns, risks, and actionable insights to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Develop executive-level presentations, briefing materials, and reporting deliverables that effectively convey analytical findings, program performance, and business outcomes
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, business stakeholders, analysts, and leadership to gather requirements, define reporting objectives, and deliver visualization solutions aligned with organizational goals
  • Apply data visualization best practices, design principles, and storytelling techniques to improve usability, readability, and audience engagement across all reporting products
  • Ensure dashboards, reports, and visualizations comply with accessibility, branding, and data governance standards, including usability and Section 508 compliance requirements where applicable
  • Support the creation and integration of geospatial mapping, statistical data displays, and interactive visualization tools to enhance analytical reporting capabilities
  • Validate data accuracy, consistency, and integrity across visualization products and reporting outputs to ensure reliable and high-quality deliverables
  • Optimize visualization performance and functionality across multiple platforms and reporting environments
  • Provide recommendations for improving reporting processes, visualization standards, and business intelligence capabilities through innovative and user-focused design solutions

Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Visualization, Information Design, Data Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, Communications, Graphic Design, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Relevant certifications in data visualization, business intelligence, analytics, or related disciplines are a plus.
Experience Requirements:
  • At least 3 years of relevant post-baccalaureate professional experience in data visualization, business intelligence, analytics, or related reporting functions
  • Minimum 3 years of experience developing presentations, dashboards, reports, and interactive visualization solutions using business intelligence and reporting tools
  • At least 3 years of demonstrated experience collaborating with stakeholders, cross-functional teams, and leadership to communicate technical information through visual reporting and data storytelling
  • Minimum 2 years of experience applying data visualization design principles, usability standards, and accessibility requirements in reporting and dashboard development
Skills and Expertise:
  • Strong knowledge of data visualization principles, including layout, color usage, usability, and visual storytelling
  • Expertise in Tableau, Power BI, and D3.js for dashboard and report development
  • Experience with GIS and geospatial mapping tools for location-based data visualization
  • Proficiency with Figma, Canva, and Google Data Studio for presentations, infographics, and reporting materials
  • Skilled in designing dashboards, scorecards, infographics, and interactive visualizations
  • Knowledge of statistical data displays and data storytelling techniques to communicate insights effectively
  • Ability to translate complex datasets into clear, accurate, and visually impactful reports and dashboards
  • Understanding of accessibility standards and visualization best practices
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams effectively
Communication Skills:
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate to various audiences when speaking and in writing.
  • Must be able to communicate, collaborate and interact with colleagues in a remote work environment; must participate in virtual meetings, appear on camera as needed, and contribute to meeting content as required.
  • Proficiency with computer, Internet, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); experience with SharePoint and Monday.com desirable.
  • Experience with video meetings/conferencing (e.g., Zoom, Adobe, MS Teams).
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new applications.
There are multiple factors considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align with the specified role, geographic location, education as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
BCT offers a competitive total compensation package that, for this position, includes a base salary between $65,000 and $80,000 along with a generous benefits package. BCT’s benefits include partially subsidized medical, dental and vision coverage, fully vested 401k plan with company match, company paid life and disability insurance plans, paid family leave, and a generous paid time off policy.
This is a remote position located in any of the fifty United States or Washington, DC. Though we do have staff in all four time zones, BCT Partners works primarily on Eastern Time.  We support and encourage a strong staff community, leveraging virtual communication tools and collaborative work practices. The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) is a federal agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) dedicated to fostering health and well-being by providing federal leadership, partnership, and resources for the compassionate and effective delivery of human services. ACF serves families, children, youth, individuals, and communities through funding, policy direction, training, technical assistance, and information services.
The Office of Head Start (OHS), part of ACF, promotes school readiness of young children from low-income families by enhancing their cognitive, social, and emotional development. OHS provides operating grants to local public and private organizations to deliver comprehensive child development services to low-income children (ages birth to five years) and their families.
Those working on this project will provide customer service, grants management assistance, and data management services in direct support of the ACF and OHS missions. They shall deliver responsive and efficient customer service to grant recipients to and in support of federal staff, streamline and support grants management processes, and provide effective and accurate data management services. This effort will enhance program operations, support evidence-based decision-making, and advance OHS objectives to promote child and family well-being and improve school readiness for children from low-income families.
