Job description

Description and Terms of Employment The Engineering Aide is an LTE or part-time, entry level or student intern who assists with public infrastructure inspections on street reconstruction or development projects in the City. This position also assists in reviewing construction plans, sanitary sewer video inspection, completing data entry into the City's GIS program, and other relevant duties of the department. This position will be open until filled.

Duties and Responsibilities Assist department staff with inspecting installation or repairs to the sanitary sewer and water system infrastructure in compliance with project specifications. Assist department staff with reviewing prints of proposed development projects and street reconstruction projects in the city. Assist department staff with performing Diggers Hotline locates throughout the city.

Assist department staff with basic ESRI GIS data entry. Assist staff with storm water outfall inspections. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent program, OR currently enrolled in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent program Valid driver's license with good driving record Knowledge and Abilities Working knowledge in the common principles, practices, and materials of public works construction, storm water management and erosion control Ability to keep accurate and detailed records of public works contract work performed Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications Ability to follow oral and written instructions Good math and computer skills Ability to efficiently utilize a computer and the required software, including word processing and spreadsheet software, CAD, GIS, and other engineering application software Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing Ability to work flexible part-time hours between 8am and 5pm weekdays Minimum Physical Abilities: Ability to traverse rough terrain, as on a construction site.

Ability to operate a computer as well as field equipment. Ability to visually inspect construction sites. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds. Ability to occasionally move body in order to observe things close to the ground or underground.
