Job description

Tectonic is seeking full-time Entry Level Construction Inspectors to work on projects throughout the NYC metro area!
This is an exciting opportunity for entry into the construction industry to work on high profile projects with opportunities for on-the-job training, professional growth and development!
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions of this position include traveling to various project sites on a daily basis, monitoring construction operations, and using applicable field-testing procedures and testing equipment to perform required field and building inspections and testing, as well as all related testing as required by the project and client to determine compliance with project plans and specifications. Inspectors may also observe and report on environmentally sustainable construction practices, energy-efficient materials, or site operations that align with green building standards. Essential functions also include the preparation of Daily Field Reports, communication of deficiencies observed in the field to project managers, contractors, and/or client representatives, and the interpretation of project-related drawings and documents, as well as all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Candidates should possess a HS Diploma/equivalent; outdoor labor, construction knowledge, or relevant BOCES training preferred;
  • Ability to complete required OSHA trainings within a reasonable period of time;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors, clients, contractors, and inspectors regarding specifications and qualification test results;
  • Ability to record project data and complete required field inspection reports and documentation;
  • Ability to review and understand industry standards, plans, and specifications and recognize deficiencies;
  • Requires a valid, clean driver's license and personal vehicle to travel to project sites, as regular daily travel is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the essential functions of this position, it is frequently necessary to:
  • Assume a stationary position,
  • Handle, inspect, and/or feel documents, materials and/or equipment relevant to the job;
  • Communicate with colleagues, supervisors, and clients using Company email and telephone systems;
  • Move around on the job-site, including ascending or descending on the landscape or on a ladder, and positioning oneself appropriately to access necessary testing materials and equipment, usually for prolonged periods of time,
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. for some types of monitoring and inspections,
  • Good visual skills, including focused depth perception, and
  • Regular daily operations of a motor-vehicle, which may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time.

Employees may also be required to undergo substance abuse testing in accordance with project requirements, US DOT Regulations, and/or Company policy. The employee may occasionally be required to operate a computer, as well as other related office machinery, such as calculators, printers, and copy machines.

PAY RANGE
Tectonic's goal is to compensate employees fairly and equitably across all positions Companywide. Our advertised pay ranges are representative of our good faith effort to provide a reasonable anticipated salary range. The offered pay may be outside of the provided salary range based upon the selected candidate's work location, experience, education, certifications, and capabilities compared to the advertised position.
Pay Range: $22.00 - 28.00 / hour
