Job description

Position Overview
International's HMI Team has an opening for a Human-Machine Interface Designer. You would be supporting development of HMI solutions for all International vehicles ranging from school buses to line-haul tractors. As a Vehicle HMI Designer, you would define critical aspects of the HMI such as interface design, interaction design, and information architecture with a primary focus on in-vehicle displays.
International is a part of TRATON SE, a global champion of the truck and transport services industry. You will also collaborate with HMI professionals from other TRATON brands including MAN and Scania.
Responsibilities
  • Translate user insights into HMI concepts or design proposals
  • Benchmark industry and non-industry user interfaces to identify and document current performance and future trends
  • Develop wireframes, use cases, personas, and storyboards
  • Develop HMI Design Specifications for vehicle features
  • Develop interaction concepts for physical HMI components
  • Collaborate with team in design reviews and creative sessions, present design concepts, share feedback on team members designs
  • Support development and documentation of user interaction guidelines
  • Collaborate with Product Planning, Visual Graphic Design, Engineering, and Program Management to develop vehicle HMI solutions
  • Participate in conducting user research and end-user testing of HMI design concepts
  • Perform vehicle and system-level HMI validation testing

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and no experience

OR
  • At least 2 years of human-computer interaction, ergonomics, human factors engineering or human factors experience

Additional Requirements
  • Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. We do not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

Desired Skills
  • Background in human-centered design, human factors, psychology, or human-computer interaction
  • Experience with user research and testing methodologies
  • Experience applying design and cognitive engineering principles to vehicle design
  • Experience with automotive or heavy truck infotainment, navigation, autonomous driving, or ADAS user interface design
  • Experience with Figma or other UX design tools
  • MS Office experience including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
