Job description

A global paint and coating manufacturer is seeking an entry- to junior-level Traveling Chemical Engineer located in greater Indianapolis, Indiana to support their operations. The ideal candidate is someone with a bachelorโ€™s degree in Chemical Engineering, excellent communication skills, and who enjoys working hands-on to solve new challenges every day. No prior experience required!

The primary responsibility of this role to support regional customers in the northern Midwest, and will require frequent travel to provide troubleshooting and process improvement. A car allowance is provided, and expenses will be reimbursed. Travel is mostly regional Monday through Friday, but occasional overnights may be required depending on business needs.


This is a full-time and direct-hire role, offering a starting salary between $55,000 - 60,000 annually, and a robust benefits package including health/dental/vision insurances, 401(k), PTO, flexible scheduling, professional development assistance, and more!


Traveling Chemical Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Travel to customer locations to provide technical services, including troubleshooting and process assistance for industrial paints and coatings
  • Communicate project needs and work with other onsite engineers as a team to complete project goals
  • Assist with formulation and product application on the manufacturing floor, using strong problem-solving abilities to solve production issues
  • Produce reports on work performed for internal and external clients
  • Complete testing and other supportive measures as requested for customers, and provide excellent customer service to maintain active business relationships for the company
  • Other duties as assigned


Traveling Chemical Engineer Requirements:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Chemical Engineering, or a related field required
  • 0 โ€“ 3 years of experience with chemical engineering or paint formulationโ€”entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply!
  • Ability to travel heavily during the week, including occasional overnight travel (around ~75 - 90% regional travel Monday through Friday)
  • Bilingual ability in Spanish or Japanese preferred but not required
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to learn and develop new skills
  • This position requires long periods of driving. This position also includes a manufacturing and warehousing work environment. While performing the duties of this job you may be required to intermittently sit, stand, walk, lift up to 15 pounds, lift in excess of 15 pounds with a lift assist, climb stairs, use hands to handle or feel parts/equipment, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend at the waist, talk and hear. You may also be required to use close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
