Manufacturing Engineer - Avionics - (Associate or Mid-Level) - Millennium Space Systems

Millennium Space Systems (MSS), has an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer - Avionics (Level 2 or Level 3) to join the MSS team in El Segundo, CA!

The Avionics Manufacturing Engineer develops, qualifies, and implements manufacturing processes and procedures to the build of avionics products and components for a variety of space vehicle subsystems.

Strong communication and organizational skills are critical to success in this position, along with the ability to build strong relationships, collaborate in a cross-functional environment, and utilize problem-solving skills to proactively identify and manage risks and opportunities.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Act as the connector between design engineering, manufacturing, and supplier organizations
  • Develop manufacturing work instructions, standard operating procedures, Manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOMs), and rework instructions for all manufacturing items within your ownership
  • Review electromechanical assembly and PCBA designs for manufacturability and production scalability
  • Identify improvement opportunities and execute projects to improve product quality, reduce lead time, decrease labor hours, maintain safe operations, etc.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, identify root causes, and drive implementation of corrective actions for non-conformances
  • Work within cross-functional teams including design, quality engineering, manufacturing operations, and supply chain to bring products from new product introduction (NPI) to full-scale production

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at El Segundo, CA.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited course of study, in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or similar Engineering degree
  • 1+ year of experience in application of production engineering principles to analyze and implement manufacturing processes and methods
  • 1+ year of experience working with and/or interpreting engineering data or engineering drawings
  • Experience assisting with analyses, root cause analysis, and drafting dispositions for non-conformances

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 2+ years' experience in manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, or test engineering or similar field in Aerospace, Automotive, or Commercial industries
  • Good understanding of IPC-A-600 and IPC-A-610, and IPC-7711C/7721C
  • Experience with NASA-STD-8739.1
  • Familiarity with IPC-2221
  • Thorough understanding of root cause analysis and related analytical methodology (Five Whys, Fishbone/Ishikawa Analysis, 8D, etc.)
  • Understands and utilizes theories, principles, and practices of engineering and project management methods
  • Experience with Solidworks or similar CAD software
  • Background in Lean Manufacturing/Process Improvement
  • Experience in PCB/PCBA Manufacturing
  • Experience with Altium Designer
  • IPC-A-600 & IPC-A-610 Certification
  • Level 2: 1 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Level 3: 3 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Summary pay range for

Level 2: $90,950 - $123,050

Level 3: $111,350 - $150,650
