Description:

We are seeking a detail-oriented, motivated Entry Level Property Accountant to join our real estate development accounting team. This role is ideal for a recent accounting graduate or early-career professional looking to build a strong foundation in real estate and property-level accounting. You will support the month-end close process, general ledger reconciliations, and financial reporting for a portfolio of assigned properties, working closely with senior accountants and property management teams.

Requirements:
  • Ensure monthly books are closed accurately and on a timely basis for all assigned properties, in accordance with established close calendars and deadlines
  • Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and recurring entries, in support of the monthly close process
  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger account reconciliations for assigned properties
  • Responsible for the accounts payable process, ensuring accurate and timely completion of weekly check runs while addressing internal invoice-related inquiries
  • Investigate and explain variances between actual results, budgets, and prior periods, providing clear written commentary to management
  • Review and reconcile bank statements, intercompany accounts, and balance sheet accounts
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for property owners, investors, and management
  • Maintain accurate and organized supporting documentation for all journal entries and reconciliations to support internal controls and audit requirements
  • Collaborate with property management, leasing, and asset management teams to obtain and verify financial data in addition to managing the quarterly Capital Expenditures (CAPEX)/Construction in Process (CIP) reporting process
  • Assist with cash management functions, including monitoring property bank balances and funding requests
  • Support annual budget and forecast preparation as needed
  • Respond to ad hoc requests from Senior Accountants and/or Controller
  • Identify process improvement opportunities to increase efficiency and accuracy of the close process

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or relative experience
  • 1–3 years of accounting experience handling functions including month end close, posting journal entries, and reconciliation; internship or coursework in real estate/property accounting a plus
  • Basic understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting principles
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and research variances
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, basic formulas), Microsoft Word, and Outlook
  • Experience with accounting or property management software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, AppFolio) is a preferred, but not required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Team-oriented with a willingness to learn and take direction
