Job description

Tax Manager - Enterprise Group

Reports To | Supervisor

Tax Senior Managers and above within the Tax Team

Summary of Job Function

At LGA, our primary focus is on our people. As a Manager in LGA's Tax service line, you will manage and gain hands-on experience working with one of our three specialized tax groups:

  • Business Group: Focus on C-Corps, S-Corps, and Partnerships, handling tax filings for complex partnerships, multi-state businesses, and international operations, with minimal individual tax filings.
  • Enterprise Group: Work with C-Corps, S-Corps, Partnerships, and related 1040s/1041s, reviewing tax returns for owner-operated businesses in New England and their business owners.
  • Private Client Group: Specialize in Personal, Trust, Estate, and Gift tax filings, serving high-net-worth individuals and their families, with limited entity return preparation and review.

Essential Job Duties

  • Facilitates and manages the preparation and review federal and state tax returns and the accurate, timely filling of all tax forms, with a focus on owner managed businesses, their owners and their families.
  • Reviews tax returns, quarterly/ yearly tax projections, and related engagements.
  • Oversees and conducts research and analysis of complex tax issues to provide written conclusions and recommendations
  • Encourages engagement team members to provide regular evaluations and feedback to others, provides formal evaluations to supervisors, senior associates, associates, interns and coops, as appropriate, and seeks out regular evaluations from supervisors.
  • Maintains effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process
  • Responsible for development of engagement budgets and the monitoring of WIP; manages the billing for clients in coordination with supervisors
  • Demonstrates an ongoing commitment to continuing education and professional growth, seeks out formal, self-study, and on-the-job training opportunities
  • Is sought out by peers as a resource in respective specialization(s). Participates in the development of staff by leading training seminars and encouraging staff and seniors to do the same
  • Effectively develops and communicates tax planning and accounting concepts to clients, provides value added advice; actively seeks specialized knowledge; connects clients with both internal and external resources to provide additional beneficial services
  • Effectively communicates accounting issues and developments to clients, provides value added service, and actively seeks specialized knowledge
  • Demonstrates expertise in applying the Internal Revenue Code and Regulations to which each client is subject and helps the engagement team to develop and apply this knowledge
  • Ensures overall engagement team quality of research, documentation, and client deliverables.
  • Effectively reviews engagement team deliverables to ensure completeness and accuracy and helps the team to develop self-review skills

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Taxation, or a related field
  • Master's in Accountancy or Tax or a plan to pursue preferred
  • CPA or EA certification or a plan to pursue preferred
  • 5-9 years' experience in a related field

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Experience with the CCH Suite of Products (ProSystem fx Tax, Engagement, Document, Portal) is a plus.
  • Ability to review and troubleshoot tax software issues and guide junior staff in usage.
  • Comfortable working in a technology-driven, paperless environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency and be flexible in tasks and time while managing your workload with adjustments to your schedule especially during peak workload times in the service line.
  • Demonstrated skill in reviewing tax returns prepared by junior team members, identifying errors, and ensuring compliance.
  • Ability to mentor and train junior team members, providing constructive feedback.
  • Acts as a culture carrier, ensuring alignment with the firm's vision and values.
  • Respect for compliance and confidentiality.

The compensation range for this position is $115,000 - $175,000 annually. Actual pay will depend on various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's qualifications, skills, experience, and relevant certifications.
