Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Campus Recreation, located in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science and jointly administered with the Division of Student Affairs, provides a diverse and intentional recreational program in a safe, inclusive, and accessible environment which enhances the social, mental, and physical well-being of the entire University community.
Position Summary
The Aquatics Operations Assistant will assist the Aquatics Leadership Team in the administration and management of all operational and programming aspects of a comprehensive aquatics program. Some of the responsibilities will include training, scheduling, and evaluating student staff, leadership development, risk management, facility and event management, administrative support, maintenance of records, and communication/collaboration with student, university, and community organizations and individuals. Early morning, evening, and weekend hours may be required. Desired Candidates will be required to:
  • Participate in mandatory in-service trainings for UNC Aquatics staff no less than once per month
  • Maintain an open line of communication with aquatics program participants and leadership
  • Assess programs and adjust as needed for the success of aquatics programs
  • Assist the Aquatics Leadership with promoting and managing new aquatics/safety-based programming
  • Assist with risk management initiatives and the implementation of risk management policies and procedures
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences
  • Relevant aquatic teaching/management experience
  • Current Life-guarding/FA/CPR/AED certifications preferred or WSI/YMCA Swim Instructor certification
  • Swim lesson teaching experience
  • Relevant aquatic management experience
  • Exceptional customer service skills
