Job description

The Senior Director of Engineering will lead the engineering organization for GlobalFoundries' 200mm semiconductor manufacturing facility in Vermont. This role is responsible for driving operational excellence, engineering performance, and technology execution across process, equipment engineering and maintenance.
As a key member of the site leadership team, you will shape engineering strategy aligned to GlobalFoundries' global manufacturing objectives, ensuring strong performance in yield, cost, cycle time, and equipment efficiency, while enabling technology roadmap execution and customer commitments.
This leader will partner closely with global engineering, R&D, and manufacturing teams to ensure alignment across the company's global fab network. GlobalFoundries operates a highly collaborative, innovation-driven environment where leaders are expected to drive performance, develop talent, and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Site Engineering Leadership & Strategy
  • Lead and manage all engineering functions within the fab, including process, equipment, engineering and maintenance

  • Define and execute site engineering strategy aligned with fab performance targets and global foundry priorities

  • Serve as a core member of the site leadership team, contributing to site-wide operational and strategic decisions

  • Drive alignment between engineering, manufacturing, and business objectives

Operational & Technology Excellence
  • Drive continuous improvement in yield, cycle time, cost, and equipment reliability

  • Ensure robust process control, manufacturing stability, and high-volume production performance

  • Lead technology transfers, process qualifications, and ramp activities in partnership with global teams

  • Champion data-driven problem-solving, root cause analysis, and systematic yield improvement initiatives

Global Collaboration & Customer Interface
  • Act as a key liaison between the Vermont fab and GlobalFoundries' global engineering, R&D, and customer organizations

  • Collaborate across sites to share best practices, standardize processes, and execute global initiatives

  • Support customer requirements through strong engineering execution and operational delivery

Talent Leadership & Organizational Development
  • Build and develop a high-performing, diverse engineering organization

Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related field (Master's or PhD preferred)

  • 15+ years of semiconductor manufacturing experience

  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams in a high-volume fabrication environment

Technical & Leadership Competencies
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes and technologies (e.g., CMOS, RF, analog/mixed-signal)

  • Deep expertise in process engineering, equipment engineering, and maintenance

  • Proven experience driving operational excellence in manufacturing (yield, cost, cycle time, productivity)

  • Demonstrated ability to lead large, cross-functional teams

  • Strong business acumen with ability to translate technical strategy into operational results

Leadership Profile
  • Strategic thinker with strong execution discipline

  • Influential leader capable of driving alignment across matrixed global organizations

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience working with customers and senior executives

Expected Salary Range
$198,000.00 - $333,000.00
