Job Summary

The Project Manager role is a mid-senior level, full-time, permanent position. This position is fully-remote, allowing you to work from home Monday - Friday each week. This role supports a portfolio of engineering projects across multiple clients and is responsible for ensuring the successful execution of each project on time, on scope, and on budget, while adhering to internal and external quality standards. Project Managers work with a team of engineers, designers, and drafters. Duties/Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage teams of engineers, designers and drafters as they design and modify new or existing high voltage protection and control systems for utilities.
  • Direct and lead a team from the bid or "pre-proposal" stage through construction to the completion of the project as-builts, managing the full lifecycle of all projects.
  • Prepare project Scope of Work (SOW) documentation, create and maintain project schedules using Gantt chart tools such as Microsoft Project, develop and track project budgets at an individual level and at a portfolio level, and ensure that every expectation for the project timeline and budget is met to internal and external stakeholders' satisfaction.
  • Communicate with Business Development, client representatives, and internal leadership regarding project progress, deadlines, changes, and roadblocks to ensure proactive project management.
  • Work closely with Client Success (Operations) to align project schedules with resource needs.
  • Manage and oversee matrixed reporting teams to drive project progress in collaboration with team supervisors and internal leadership.
  • Work with each project team to order necessary materials and complete needed procurement support for engineering projects.
  • Report out project financials and project health metrics to the Operations Manager teams weekly to identify issues and discuss mitigation strategies.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, mentorship and instruction to project teams and staff members. 
  • Support Contract creation, adherence, and negotiation with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Leads discussions on project expectations to ensure project leads (engineers) understand the project flow, schedule and budget needs to meet end goals.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises a total of 2-3 employees directly and a department of up to 25 indirectly. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these team members 
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws 
  • Other responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

Requirements

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong organizational skills and systems, along with the ability to understand, modify, and create project workflows to ensure team success
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with of Microsoft applications, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of project finance and project controls principles and best practices
  • Domestic travel up to 25%, including but not limited to quarterly visits to Amped I HQ for planning discussions

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a 4-year ABET-accredited university required
  • Project Management Certification or other documented PM training course preferred
  • Project management experience with the design, procurement, and construction of Power Transmission and Distribution assets, specifically within substations required 
  • Protection & Controls engineering design experience is strongly preferred to ensure a solid technical understanding of projects and workflows
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License strongly preferred, but not required
  • 2+ years experience as a Project Manager for relay protection and control design of high voltage 12-500 kV substation projects required
