Scaffold Project Manager information

What is a scaffold project manager?

Scaffold Project Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of scaffolding projects at construction or industrial sites. They manage teams, ensure safety compliance, schedule deliveries, monitor project budgets, and communicate with clients to ensure projects are completed on time and within specifications. Their role is crucial for maintaining safety standards and efficient workflow during construction or maintenance projects that require temporary scaffolding structures.

What are some common challenges scaffold project managers face when coordinating projects on active construction sites?

Scaffold Project Managers often encounter challenges such as adapting to changing site conditions and maintaining strict safety standards while ensuring project timelines are met. Coordinating with multiple trades and managing limited space for scaffold setups can add complexity, especially on busy construction sites. Effective communication and proactive planning are essential to address unforeseen issues, manage risk, and keep projects running smoothly. Collaborating closely with site supervisors and safety officers helps to minimize disruptions and maintain compliance with regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a scaffold project manager, and why are they important?

A Scaffold Project Manager should have expertise in construction management, strong knowledge of scaffolding systems and safety regulations, and relevant qualifications such as a degree in construction or engineering plus certifications like OSHA or CISRS. Familiarity with project management software, CAD design tools, and inspection systems is typically required. Leadership, effective communication, and problem-solving skills help manage teams and coordinate with clients and contractors. These skills ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget, minimizing risks and maximizing efficiency.

What is the difference between Scaffold Project Manager vs Scaffold Supervisor?

AspectScaffold Project ManagerScaffold Supervisor
CertificationsOSHA safety training, PMP (optional)OSHA safety training, Scaffold Erector Certification
Work EnvironmentOversees multiple sites, manages teams, handles planningOn-site supervision, direct oversight of scaffold erection
ResponsibilitiesProject planning, budgeting, client communicationSupervises scaffold installation, ensures safety compliance

The Scaffold Project Manager typically handles project planning, coordination, and client communication, focusing on overall project success. In contrast, the Scaffold Supervisor is more hands-on, directly overseeing scaffold erection and safety on-site. Both roles require safety certifications, but the Project Manager's role is broader, involving management and administrative tasks, while the Supervisor focuses on daily on-site operations.

Masonry Project Manager

Shamrock Consulting

Chicago, IL โ€ข On-site

Full-time

Posted 25 days ago

Job description

Shamrock Business Consulting is working with a specialty masonry and facade restoration contractor to find a Project Manager.

This is a self-perform shop, so the work is yours from the estimate to the final walk. You price it, staff it, track production, and answer for the margin — running crews you actually control rather than chasing subcontractors.

What You'll Do

  • Provide complete oversight of repair and restoration projects from estimate through closeout
  • Monitor and control construction through administrative direction of the on-site Superintendent and Foreman, keeping the project on schedule and within budget
  • Investigate potentially serious situations early and put corrective measures in place before they become claims
  • Manage self-perform operations, including estimating, the bid process, production tracking, financial monitoring, and reporting
  • Attend and contribute to project meetings
  • Develop client relationships and resolve client issues directly
  • Build strong working relationships with Superintendents, Subcontractors, and Assistant Project Managers
  • Secure permitting and ensure compliance with local ordinances

What You Bring

  • Five or more years of experience in brick, stone, terracotta, or facade repair, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge of construction project management software — Procore is ideal
  • Previous experience with self-perform estimating and project execution
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related field preferred

Why This Role

Facade work does not behave like new construction. You don't know what you have until the scaffold is up and the units come off, the building is usually occupied while you work, and the repair has to match what was there a century ago. It takes a specific kind of project manager and there aren't many. You will own your projects, run your own crews, and have a direct line to the people making decisions.
