This technical superiority has led the company to continually enhance its standard offerings with unique custom solutions engineered and built to solve a customer problem or meet a customer specification.
The company was founded in Costa Mesa, California in 1958, serving the many aviation and defense companies based in southern California. Today, our sales representatives are located in over 35 countries.
Selling to the most demanding industries - military, aerospace, shipboard, and precision industries - Staco Systems expansion is due to a commitment to quality in creating custom solutions for its customers. Our products have been certified with numerous standards boards, military and supplier certifications including AS9100 and MIL-SPEC.
Originally known as Staco Switch, the company began by offering lighted pushbutton display switches including the first Series 30 switch, which was used in a Fokker F-27 in 1960. We remain one of the world's preeminent providers of these products. The Staco Systems product suite is continually expanding, and now includes rugged keyboards and keypads, electronic controllers, panel assemblies and edge-lit panels.

Job Summary
Plans and directs all aspects of mechanical engineering activities and projects within the organization. Ensures all projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with Staco Systems established policies and objectives. Directs the development of new products and improvement of existing products from concept through market availability.

Mechanical Engineers and CAD Designers.
Examples of Essential Functions:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Ensures best practice engineering methods and provides guidance for engineering initiatives.
  • Directs the use of technologies, components, materials, and tools that result in cost-effective and quality output.
  • Perform risk assessments and directs the organization on mitigation strategies
  • Assures effective implementation of Engineering, Product Development and Field Readiness processes.
  • Interface with Engineering, Sales, Quality Assurance and Production departments to gain insight into trends and opportunities across the company and industry
  • Assign projects for product development and improvement
  • Act as technical consultant to customers, attesting to the reliability of the product
  • Analyze designs to improve product quality and provide necessary revisions to designs to meet customer satisfaction, while maintaining competitiveness in the industry
  • Research concerns on company designs and manufacturing processes and provide recommendations and solutions
  • Plans and formulates aspects of research and development proposals such as objective or purpose of project, applications that can be used from findings, costs of project, and equipment and human resource requirements.
  • Oversees key projects, processes and performance reports, data and analysis. Plans documentation system.
  • Cooperates with Operations to ensure highly capable and robust supply chain
  • Selects, develops, trains and supervises staff.
  • Develops, determines and implements policies, procedures and programs.
  • Selects correct design concepts and fundamental technology used for new products or improvement for existing ones.
  • Working with the manufacturing, operations, and quality manager, reviews and monitors quality and process improvements and new product development.
  • Directs appropriate support for manufacturing and quality functions within the organization.

Qualifications Guidelines
Education/training/experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • three years of hands-on Engineering Management experience working directly within all levels of the department
  • Proven experience onboarding and training engineering staff regarding best practices and new methods
  • Experience performing engineering tasks if resources are not available
  • Experience interacting with customers regarding problem resolution, production descriptions, qualification definitions, etc.

Knowledge of:
  • Excellent technical skills

Physical Standards:
  • This position may rarely require kneeling, bending, squatting.
  • Must have finger dexterity, ability to use keyboard/ten key.
  • Good eyesight for use of microscopes and small part assembly
  • Able to periodically participate in the inspection of company machinery and operations.
  • Reach, stoop and lift office files, records or reports, typically weighing 20 pounds or less.
  • Ability to push/pull up to 50 pounds
