Work EnvironmentInternships, entry-level positions in offices, labs, or manufacturing plantsDesign, analysis, testing in offices, labs, manufacturing facilities
Employer & Industry UsageEngineering firms, manufacturing, construction, technology companiesManufacturing, automotive, aerospace, energy sectors

Entry Level Engineering typically involves foundational engineering tasks with a bachelor's degree, often in various disciplines, and is used across many industries. Mechanical Engineering is a specialized field focusing on design, analysis, and manufacturing of mechanical systems, often requiring specific technical skills and licensure for advanced roles. Both roles share similar work environments but differ in specialization and scope.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

Entry-level engineering roles typically do not pay $10,000 a month without advanced education or experience. High-paying jobs that reach this level often require specialized skills, certifications, or experience in fields like software development, sales, or entrepreneurship, rather than entry-level engineering positions. Most engineering roles at the entry level start with lower salaries and require a degree or relevant training for higher earnings.

How do I get into engineering with no experience?

Entry level engineering positions often require a relevant degree in engineering or a related field. Gaining practical skills through internships, co-op programs, or certifications in tools like AutoCAD or MATLAB can improve your chances. Building a strong foundation in math and science and demonstrating problem-solving abilities are also important for entry-level roles.

What are entry level engineering jobs?

Entry level engineering jobs are positions designed for recent graduates or individuals with limited professional experience in the engineering field. These roles typically involve assisting senior engineers with projects, performing basic technical tasks, and gaining hands-on experience in a specific engineering discipline such as civil, mechanical, electrical, or software engineering. Entry level engineers often receive on-the-job training and mentoring to develop their skills and advance their careers. These roles serve as a foundation for future growth and specialization within the engineering industry.

What is an entry-level engineer?

An entry-level engineer is a professional who is starting their engineering career, typically with little to no prior work experience. They often work under supervision, perform basic design, analysis, or testing tasks, and may need to obtain relevant certifications or a degree in engineering to qualify for the role.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Highly experienced engineers in specialized fields such as petroleum engineering, aerospace engineering, or certain senior roles in software engineering can earn $500,000 or more annually, often through a combination of base salary, bonuses, and stock options. These positions typically require advanced skills, extensive experience, and often involve leadership or executive responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Engineer, you need a solid educational background in engineering fundamentals, strong problem-solving abilities, and proficiency in mathematics, usually obtained through a relevant bachelor's degree. Familiarity with technical tools such as CAD software, industry-specific modeling programs, and basic project management systems is typically expected. Effective communication, teamwork, and a willingness to learn are important soft skills that help you integrate into engineering teams and adapt to new challenges. These skills and qualities are vital for ensuring accurate technical work, smooth collaboration, and ongoing professional development in a dynamic engineering environment.

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect as an entry-level engineer?

As an entry-level engineer, you’ll typically begin by supporting more senior engineers on a variety of projects, which may include drafting designs, running simulations, conducting data analysis, or assisting with testing and troubleshooting. Your daily tasks will often involve collaborating with team members, participating in meetings, and learning industry-specific tools and software. Over time, you'll gain more responsibility, such as managing small project components or communicating directly with clients. This role is designed to help you build foundational technical skills while gaining exposure to different aspects of engineering within your organization.

This entry-level engineering position bridges the gap between design and field construction, ensuring MEP systems are installed per plans, specifications, and quality standards. The role provides hands-on exposure to construction management, design review, and technical problem-solving in a fast-paced project environment.

Key Responsibilities Include: (But not limited to the following):

Construction Coordination

  • Assist in coordinating the installation of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems on multi-family construction sites.
  • Review design drawings, submittals, and shop drawings to verify accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
  • Support field engineers and superintendents in resolving design or installation issues.
  • Track progress of MEP work to ensure schedule adherence and report deviations to project management.
  • Participate in coordination meetings with subcontractors, vendors, and design teams.

Technical Support

  • Review and interpret engineering drawings and specifications for constructability and accuracy.
  • Conduct site inspections to confirm MEP systems are installed in accordance with approved plans, codes, and standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of requests for information (RFIs) and change order documentation.
  • Collect and analyze field data for as-built drawings, commissioning, and turnover packages.
  • Proficient reading and understanding of specified equipment, materials/joinery, means and methods, and general engineering practices for MEP systems, components, and their interrelated function with other disciplines/trades.

Project Management Assistance

  • Support the project engineer or manager in document control, procurement tracking, and cost reporting.
  • Maintain project logs including submittals, RFIs, inspections, and punch lists.
  • Help prepare progress reports and participate in project closeout activities.

Quality & Safety

  • Monitor work for adherence to company quality standards and industry best practices.
  • Support site safety efforts by ensuring MEP trades comply with safety regulations and jobsite protocols.
  • Report any non-conforming work or safety concerns to supervision promptly.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or MEP Construction Engineering, or comparable MEP construction experience — required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in construction or layout of MEP systems (internships or co-op experience accepted if performed on multifamily jobs for the above-mentioned disciplines/trades).
  • Familiarity with multi-family, commercial, or residential construction environments preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Basic understanding of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical) and their interrelationships.
  • Proficient in reading construction drawings and technical specifications.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite; exposure to Bluebeam or Procore a plus.
  • Practical familiarity with applicable codes (ASHRAE, NEC, CPC, CMC, IECC, CBC, ADA, NFC).

Soft Skills

  • Strong attention to detail with analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn and develop within a construction engineering career path.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis without future employment sponsorship
