Southern Ionics Inc., a family-owned leader in specialty chemical manufacturing with over four decades of experience, is seeking a talented **Project Engineer** to join our corporate engineering team in West Point, Mississippi. This role offers the opportunity to support a wide range of technical projects from conception through completion in a dynamic, hands-on environment.

Job Summary

Support the corporate engineering team in scheduling, planning, forecasting, resourcing, and managing all technical activities to ensure project accuracy and quality from start to finish.

Essential Functions
  • Design, specify, procure, install, and provide start-up support for facilities, process equipment, site improvements, and new operations. This includes developing scopes, obtaining equipment quotes and selection, preparing bid packages, creating timetables, selecting engineering and construction contractors, managing equipment purchases, and controlling costs.
  • Provide technical support to plant operations, including process design, operating procedures, troubleshooting, and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Support pilot plant programs by designing equipment, writing procedures and test methods, analyzing data, and preparing reports.
  • Perform basic material and energy balances, equipment design calculations, environmental modeling assessments, geo-technical analysis, and data analysis using both manual and computer-aided methods.
  • Coordinate designs with inputs from Environmental, Transportation, and Safety teams.
Qualifications
  • BS in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 1 to 5 years' experience
  • Sound knowledge of engineering theory and design criteria.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong decision-making and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively on multiple discipline projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing requirements in a small organization, handling a wide range of tasks from hands-on work to supervising consultant engineering.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work around industrial equipment.
  • Approximately 25-50% travel required, depending on project load.
  • Ability to wear and work in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas.
  • Extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
