Facilities Mechanical Engineer / AutoCAD Design Intern 

Requisition Summary 

The Facilities Mechanical Engineer / AutoCAD Design Intern supports the Facilities Maintenance and Engineering team in the planning, design, and documentation of facility infrastructure systems. This role provides practical, hands-on experience in an active manufacturing and industrial environment, allowing the intern to apply engineering fundamentals to real facilities projects.The intern willassistwithmaintainingand updating AutoCAD drawings, supporting space planning and facility modifications, and verifying field conditions to ensureaccurate documentation. Working closely with facilities manager, engineer, and maintenance team, the intern will gain exposure to mechanical and electrical systems, project coordination, and engineering standards.In addition, the intern will help develop standard work procedures andparticipatein continuous improvement initiatives thatsupport safe, efficient, and well-documented facility operations. This position offers valuable experience in how engineering design, documentation, and project execution support daily plant operations and long-term facility improvements. 

Job Functions & Responsibilities 

  • Update,maintain, and revise AutoCAD drawings for facility layouts, mechanical systems, and electrical drawings 

  • Read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings andassistwith system coordination 

  • Assistwith space planning, renovations, equipment installations, and facility improvement projects 

  • Support Facilities Engineers with field verifications, site walkdowns, measurements, and as-built documentation 

  • Review drawings for accuracy, clarity, and compliance with established drafting and engineering standards 

  • Incorporate approved changes and field conditions into controlled design documentation 

  • Assistwith basic project management activities, including task tracking anddocumentationsupport 

  • Help develop andmaintainstandard work procedures and facilities engineering documentation 

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to facilities design, documentation, and processes 

  • Prepare layout drawings and design support materials for facility modifications and capital projects 

  • Provide design support through markups, revisions, and redlines 

  • Collaborate with engineers, maintenance personnel, contractors, and project stakeholders 

Qualifications and Skills 

  • Intern that has obtained or pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, or a related field 

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar CAD software 

  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical engineering drawings 

  • Basic understanding of building systems such as HVAC, utilities, and electrical infrastructure 

  • Strong attention to detail and ability tomaintainaccuratedocumentation 

  • Interest in learning project management, standard work development, and continuous improvement practices 

  • Strong communicationskills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
