What is an engine builder?

Engine builders are skilled technicians who specialize in assembling, modifying, and repairing engines for various vehicles, such as cars, motorcycles, boats, or aircraft. They work with both standard and high-performance engines, ensuring that each component is properly fitted and functions optimally. Their responsibilities often include diagnosing engine issues, rebuilding worn parts, and tuning engines for efficiency and power. Engine builders typically work in automotive shops, racing teams, or manufacturing facilities. Strong mechanical knowledge and attention to detail are essential for success in this role.

What does an engine builder do?

The job duties of an engine builder involve working to design, build, improve, assemble, and test engines. In this career, you usually work in the automotive industry, though you could also design engines for aerospace, manufacturing, or a variety of other industries. Your duties as an engine builder may include engine teardown and rebuilding, as well as creating new engines. Your employer may also expect you to work on a specific aspect of an auto design project, such as the transmission. In some positions, you may add components and inspect engines to ensure proper functionality.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an engine builder, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Engine Builder, you need in-depth mechanical knowledge, precision machining skills, and hands-on experience with engine assembly or repair, often supported by a technical diploma or apprenticeship. Familiarity with tools such as torque wrenches, micrometers, and diagnostic software, as well as certifications like ASE, are highly valued. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and strong organizational skills help set top performers apart in this role. These capabilities are essential for building reliable, high-performance engines and ensuring safety and customer satisfaction.

What are some common challenges engine builders face during the assembly process, and how can they be addressed?

Engine builders often encounter challenges such as precise component fitting, diagnosing subtle defects in parts, and maintaining strict cleanliness to prevent contamination. To address these, attention to detail, use of specialized measurement tools, and adherence to clean workspace practices are essential. Collaborating with machinists and engineers can also help resolve technical issues quickly, ensuring engines meet performance and reliability standards.

Job description

Who we are:

The Altimate AI platform provides an expert agentic data engineering harness to automate the work of data teams. These generate data pipelines, write data documentation/tests, and optimize data infrastructure autonomously.

Teams using Altimate.ai have seen 3x accelerated data development and up to 30% reduction in data infrastructure costs. Today, Datamates are used by hundreds of enterprise companies and thousands of weekly active users. Read more about us in this VentureBeat Article.

Role summary: As the Digital Marketing Specialist (AEO/SEO) at Altimate AI, you will own the visibility of Altimate.ai across both traditional search engines and AI/LLM answer engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, etc.) across all of our web properties — altimate.ai and help.altimate.ai. You'll plan, implement, and monitor on-site and off-site improvements, build the measurement that proves impact, and run the day-to-day digital marketing operations that support the broader marketing motion: events/webinars, distribution of engineering-authored content, and email marketing. As an AI-native company, we expect you to work the way we build product — using agentic AI tools, skills, and automations to scale your own output, not doing everything by hand.

What you'll do (key responsibilities)

AEO/SEO

  • Own on-site AEO/SEO across all Altimate web properties (altimate.ai, help.altimate.ai): technical SEO, on-page optimization, structured data/schema markup, site architecture and internal linking, and optimization specifically for AI answer engines
  • Work with the technical members of the team to plan new initiatives to dive greater AEO visibility.
  • Build and own off-site reach and promotion: article syndication, cross-linking and backlink outreach, and directory/listing submissions
  • Plan, implement, and monitor a roadmap of visibility improvements across search engines and LLM responses
  • Build and own the measurement stack for search/AEO performance — rankings, organic traffic, appearance/citation in AI answers, and downstream conversion
  • Run regular technical SEO audits (crawlability, indexing, site health, Core Web Vitals) and drive fixes with the web/engineering team

Digital marketing operations

  • Publish articles written by our engineering team to the site, and build distribution and exposure for that content (syndication, social, newsletters, communities)
  • Set up and run occasional digital events and webinars, including logistics, promotion, registration workflow, and follow-up
  • Own list management and housekeeping for our outbound email marketing — hygiene, segmentation, deliverability. Manage email sends and campaigns via Sendgrid and Hubspot
  • Produce weekly reporting on key statistics, measure the impact of activities, and adjust tactics based on the numbers

Agentic ways of working

  • Build, run, and iterate on agentic workflows — skills, tool integrations, and scheduled/automated tasks — to automate and scale execution across SEO/AEO monitoring, reporting, and marketing operations

Success metrics / KPIs

  • Lagging indicator: Weekly inbound organic search traffic
  • Leading indicators:
    • Keyword rankings for altimate.ai and help.altimate.ai. Visibility/citation frequency in AI answer engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, etc.)
    • Growth in quality referring domains and successful syndication/listing placements
  • Email program health: deliverability, list hygiene, open/click rates
  • Consistency and quality of weekly reporting, and evidence of tactics adjusted in response to data

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in promoting to technical audiences, working with a technical product or in the data ecosystem
  • Comfortable working with technical content written by others (e.g., engineers), including light editing
