What is an energy broker sales professional?

Energy Broker Sales professionals act as intermediaries between energy suppliers and consumers, helping businesses and sometimes individuals find the best deals on electricity, natural gas, or renewable energy. They analyze clients’ energy needs, compare rates from various suppliers, and negotiate contracts to secure cost-effective and reliable energy solutions. Their goal is to save clients money and simplify the process of purchasing energy in often complex, deregulated markets.

How does an energy broker sales professional typically collaborate with clients and energy suppliers during the sales process?

Energy Broker Sales professionals act as intermediaries, working closely with both clients and energy suppliers to secure the best energy deals. They begin by assessing clients’ energy needs and usage patterns, then source quotes and negotiate terms directly with multiple suppliers on the client’s behalf. Regular communication, trust-building, and transparency are key, as brokers must ensure both parties' requirements are met and agreements are properly executed. This collaborative approach often involves ongoing account management and consultation to adapt to changing market conditions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an energy broker sales professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Energy Broker Sales professional, you need a strong understanding of energy markets, sales techniques, and negotiation skills, often supported by a degree in business or related fields. Familiarity with CRM software, energy procurement platforms, and regulatory compliance tools is typically required. Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving abilities help you stand out in this client-driven industry. These skills and qualities are vital for securing deals, maintaining client trust, and navigating the complexities of the energy sector.

Our work spans four core areas: Building Controls, Energy Efficiency, Energy Advisory, and Facility Management—covering HVAC/mechanical optimization, BMS/BAS and EPMS controls, lighting system upgrades, energy brokerage, roofing and building envelope assessments, construction management, and more.

Whether you’re in sales, engineering, construction/project management, field operations, corporate, or technology, you’ll play a role in delivering these solutions and helping clients improve facility performance.

  • Do you thrive on building client relationships and closing high-value energy procurement deals?
  • Are you passionate about delivering innovative energy solutions that make a real impact?
  • Do you want to join a best-in-class team where your success is uncapped?

If you answered yes, let's talk!

GENERAL PURPOSE:

We’re seeking a proven B2B sales professional with deep experience in energy procurement brokerage sales—specializing in electricity, natural gas, and green energy. As a Sales Executive on the energy team, you’ll play a critical role in driving new business growth and expanding our footprint into large key accounts (typically ~5,000 MWh and up).

This is a consultative sales role, focused on building long-term client relationships and delivering solutions that help manage energy spend across procurement, efficiency strategies, and the full suite of Mantis offerings.

  • Reports to: Director of Sales, Energy Key Accounts
  • Hybrid Schedule: 3 days in-office/week.
  • Travel: 30-40% based on client meetings, events, etc.
Outside Sales and Energy Advising
  • Prospect, uncover, and develop strategies to secure new business opportunities.
  • Build and maintain a healthy pipeline of prospects and key energy accounts.
  • Conduct calls and face-to-face meetings daily with C-level decision makers.
  • Position solutions that optimize energy spend and deliver measurable value.
  • Analyze and report customer positions and commodity contract performance.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless execution and client satisfaction.
  • Maintain accurate records in Salesforce and other CRM tools.
  • Exceed sales goals consistently and contribute to overall market share growth.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years selling B2B electricity, natural gas, or green energy contracts (supplier or broker backgrounds welcome).
  • Multi-year track record of exceeding individual quotas (~$1M+)
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to sell into multiple levels of an organization.
COMPETENCIES
  • Hunter and closer mentality with exceptional networking and cold-calling skills.
  • Strategic and tactical selling expertise with new prospects.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Consultative approach to building long-term client relationships.
  • Results-driven mindset with relentless focus on exceeding targets.
Includes base salary (commensurate with experience) PLUS uncapped commission.

Note: Employees are held accountable for all duties of this job. This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or qualifications associated with the position.

Working at Mantis also brings tremendous professional development opportunities that allow you to make a real impact on both the company and your career!

Not sure you meet every single requirement?
Studies show that women and individuals from underrepresented groups often hesitate to apply unless they check every box. At Mantis, we’re committed to building an inclusive and equitable team—so if this role excites you, we’d love to hear from you, even if your experience doesn’t match every single qualification.
