About the Role

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for delivering pre-hospital Basic Life Support (BLS) to patients of all ages and backgrounds in all weather conditions. Working under the supervision of an EMS Supervisor and alongside other EMS personnel, the EMT assesses, treats, lifts, and transports patients using appropriate equipment and techniques. The role includes completing required documentation, supporting efficient EMS operations, and representing University Hospital and EMS with professionalism and integrity.


What You’ll Do

  • Provides pre-hospital Basic Life Support (BLS) to patients of all ages and backgrounds

  • Delivers care in all weather conditions and emergency situations

  • Works under the supervision of an EMS Supervisor and in coordination with other EMS personnel

  • Assesses, treats, lifts, and transports patients using appropriate equipment and techniques

  • Completes all required documentation accurately and promptly

  • Supports the overall efficiency and effectiveness of EMS operations

  • Represents University Hospital and EMS in a professional and positive manner


What You’ll Bring

Experience & Preferences:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of EMS experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of EMS driving experience with a good driving record

  • CEVO (Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator) course completion preferred

  • Valid PHTLS (Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support) or BTLS (Basic Trauma Life Support) provider card preferred

  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish skills preferred

  • Previous experience with electronic medical records preferred

Medical & Safety Requirements:

  • Must pass a medical evaluation and respirator fit test

  • Must be able to wear an N95 particulate respirator mask per PEOSHA standards

Credential Requirements:

  • Active and valid EMT certification from:

    • National Registry OR

    • NJ, PA, NY, DE, MD, VA, WV, DC, or another Atlantic EMS Council state

  • NJ EMT reciprocity must be obtained within six (6) months of hire

  • Valid driver's license with NJ driving privileges as per DOT/MVC regulations for assigned vehicle type

  • Must be an authorized driver approved by Logistical Services

  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers certification

  • ICS (Incident Command System) Level 100 certification

  • NIMS (National Incident Management System) Awareness certification

Compensation (NJ Job Transparency Law)

The expected hourly range for this position is $25.05- $26.31 per hour, in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
