About the Role

The primary purpose of the Emergency Medical Services Supervisor is to provide for the orderly operation of the EMS system, respond to incidents requiring an EMS Supervisor for problem solving or decision making, complete all required reports and documentation, enforce operational policies and procedures, observe and evaluate employee performance, provide pre-hospital First Responder Basic Life Support (BLS) in all weather conditions, provide leadership and direction to EMS Personnel, consider, meet, and exceed the expectations of customers and patients of all ages and from all populations while using age and population appropriate equipment and techniques and while actively seeking other assigned duties to support efficient EMS operations and represent UH, and EMS in a positive and professional manner.


What You’ll Do 

  • Ensure the smooth and orderly operation of the EMS system
  • Respond to incidents requiring supervisory problem-solving and decision-making
  • Complete all required reports and documentation accurately and in a timely manner
  • Enforce EMS operational policies and procedures
  • Observe, evaluate, and support employee performance
  • Provide pre-hospital Basic Life Support (BLS) as a First Responder in all weather conditions
  • Deliver leadership, guidance, and direction to EMS personnel
  • Meet and exceed the expectations of patients and customers across all age groups and populations
  • Utilize age-appropriate equipment and techniques when delivering care
  • Support efficient EMS operations by proactively taking on additional assigned duties
  • Represent University Hospital and EMS in a positive, professional manner

What You’ll Bring

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum of four (4) years of EMS experience
  • At least two (2) years of EMS driving experience with a good driving record
  • Valid driver’s license with New Jersey driving privileges
  • Ability to pass a medical evaluation and respirator fit test
  • Ability to wear an N95 respirator in compliance with PEOSHA standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Experience in an urban EMS setting preferred

Licensure & Certifications (Required and Must Be Maintained)

  • Current active credential in good standing as one of the following:

    • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
    • Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic (MICP)
    • Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN)
  • EMT Certification Requirements:

    • Certification as an EMT in NJ, PA, NY, DE, MD, VA, WV, Washington, D.C., or any Atlantic EMS Council member state
    • NJ EMT reciprocity must be obtained prior to completion of the probationary period
  • Required Certifications:

    • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Provider
    • (MICP or MICN only) AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • (MICP or MICN only) AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Education for Pre-Hospital Professionals – Advanced (PEPP-A)
    • Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or Basic/International Trauma Life Support (BTLS/ITLS)
      • Must be obtained within one (1) year if not already held

Incident Command & Emergency Preparedness

  • Incident Command System (ICS) Level 200
  • Incident Command System (ICS) Level 300
    • Must be obtained within one (1) year if not already held

Required Training (At Time of Hire or Promotion)

  • EMS Hazmat Awareness and Operations Level
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) Awareness
  • National Response Plan – Introductory course

Compensation

The expected hourly rate range for this position is WH/23C - $32.27- $49.35 per hour, in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
