Job description

Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities:

  • Providing knowledgeable and practical legal advice to human resources professionals and other company leaders regarding day-to-day employment law issues, including discipline, performance management, non-discrimination, non-harassment, wage and hour practices, background checks and drug testing, and employment law compliance issues
  • Providing guidance to human resources professionals on ADA interactive process discussions, FMLA and other leave-related compliance issues
  • Managing a docket of employment law litigation matters in coordination with outside employment counsel
  • Responding to attorney demand letters and agency administrative charges involving employment-related claims
  • Developing company policies and associated materials in response to applicable legal developments
  • Developing and delivering training to HR professionals on employment law topics
  • Occasional travel when required (0%-10%)
  • Other projects or duties as assigned
Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an ABA accredited law school with 4 to 6 years of experience as an employment attorney handling a wide range of employment matters and litigation, with an emphasis on California employment law. 
  • Admission to California state bar with an active license, or satisfaction of requirements for registered in-house practice in the State of California.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work on a broad range of legal issues.
  • Strong ethical background and commitment to integrity.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through; excellent organizational skills.
  • Experience with union-represented work forces is preferred.
