Emergency Services Manager 

Job Type: Full-Time | Varied Shifts

$10,000 Sign-On Bonus available to well qualified applicants 

Schedule: 40 hours/week, varied shifts

How you'll contribute

An Emergency Services Manager who excels in this role:

  • Must be able to perform all duties of a paramedic for Ottumwa Regional Health Center
  • Adjusting schedule to meet unit's needs
  • Maintaining RN licensure/Paramedic certification
  • Coordinates QI activities on the unit. Assists in the review, development and implementation of polices, procedures, and standards. Monitors and assures consistent application of those policies, procedures, and standards. 
  • Function as a crew member and maintain adequate department staffing as per service agreement with the State of Iowa EMS Bureau.
  • Fuctions as the Service Director for ORMICS and is the service representative for ORHC as part of the Wapello County Healthcare Coalition. 
  • Serves as part of the Emergency Management Council and other committees as directed by EMS Director. 
  • Manages and maintains ORMICS run report system program and performs QA on run audits 
  • Demonstrates ability in the care and handling of patients in all age groups including, but not limited to, 

  • consideration of the special needs and behavior of each respective group.

  • Knowledge of all procedures per DOT curricula and respective Iowa Scope of practice for each level of EMS provider.
  • Demonstration of adequate BLS skills (CPR, oxygen administration, immobilization, history, radio skills, assessment). 
  • Demonstration of adequate ALS skills and assessments (IV and IO initiation for adults and pediatric patients, ACLS AND PALS proficiency, drug administration, cardiac monitor interpretation, electrical therapy, 12 lead EKG, endotracheal intubation).
  • Demonstrates KingLT insertion. 

  • Demonstrates competence during life-threatening situations.  Correctly interprets situation and acts according to protocol. 
  • Drives in appropriate manner, so not to endanger the lives of bystanders, other drivers, patient, and fellow employees.  Drives in a manner to avoid collisions with other objects.
  • Has adequate lifting skills for most patients.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in operation of 911 phone system, voice recorder, radios (base/mobiles/portables), and other phones in dispatch area.
  • Can function in the Incident Command role on field emergencies or mass casualty events.

  • Demonstrates ability to read ORMICS map book and ability to correctly use GPS in ambulances.

What we're looking for

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in related field or Applicable work experience may be used in lieu of education

  • Experience: One to two years previous management experience is preferred with three years clinical experience in specialty area(s). Pre-hospital patient care experience as an RN-exempt or Paramedic is preferred. 

  • Certifications: Current valid Class C (noncommercial) Iowa Driver's License and current valid Iowa Paramedic Ceritification, or RN License with the ability to obtain RN-exempt status to function as part of the ambulance crew. Current BCLS, ACLS, and PALS
