Job Responsibilities:
Objective:
To manufacture quality parts as directed within an acceptable time frame to assist the organization in meeting all MAFACT and customer's requirements and to perform the assigned task in a safe manner.
Scope:
To provide quality parts while meeting production targets. To take initiative and to execute work duties in a manner that promotes goodwill and cooperation with fellow workers.
Responsibilities, Duties and Authority: (These duties cover only the more significant responsibilities, they are not meant to be all inclusive. Other duties may be given by the supervisor in addition to, or instead of, those listed here.)
  • Responsible for running the preform machines and changeover of assigned machines to meet the production schedule
  • Able to assist with changeover, make adjustments, and clean tooling on assigned machines.
  • Willing to be trained on and run hobb, heat treat, and chamfer machines as required.
  • Troubleshoot process and equipment inefficiencies and perform assigned preventative maintenance duties on equipment as required.
  • Operate all assigned production equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Consistently meet or exceed production rate on all jobs they perform.
  • Ensure that the workstations are kept safe, neat, and clean as specified in the work instructions by 5S and TPM guidelines.
  • Complete all the required quality checks in a timely manner.
  • Inspect parts produced at various workstations, both visually and with measurement tools, in order to maintain the highest level of quality.
  • Escalate issue(s) to Production Team Leader or Production Supervisor, i.e., machine/equipment problem, safety-related issue, process is out of control or out of specification & has the authority to stop the line to correct safety or quality issues.
  • Cover all the Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) requirements and initiative red tag if needed.
  • Ensure that all parts are always handled properly to preserve their quality.
  • Support cross functional team when troubleshooting any issues.
  • Assist set up personnel (as required) in setting up machines.
  • Supports all plant IATF 16949 initiatives & requirements.
  • Complete first off and last off part inspections as required.
  • Follow standardized work throughout the shift.
  • Comply with the applicable responsibilities related to effective quality management in accordance with MPT Sterling Heights Quality Management System (QMS) IATF 16949.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor or designate.
  • Work in compliance with the provisions outlined in OSHA.
  • Follow MPT Sterling Heights Environmental, Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Follow the guidelines and rules as set out by the Employee Handbook and MPT Sterling Heights policies and procedures.
  • Ensure pre-shift inspections are performed as required.
  • Ensure all workplace accidents, injuries and / or illnesses are reported immediately to the Production Supervisor.
  • Actively participate in Return-to-Work Program if required.
  • Evacuate the building immediately once fire alarm sounds.
  • Inform Production Supervisor of any repairs required to machines or other equipment.
  • Support all plant ISO initiatives & requirements.
  • Apply good housekeeping standards and maintain work environment in a clean and safe condition, adhering to applicable health and safety issues.
  • Ensure knowledge obtained during training is applied.
  • Ensure Production Supervisor is made aware of any uncertainty you may have regarding the operation of equipment, machine or device prior to beginning to work.
  • Comply with the designated responsibilities related to effective environmental management in accordance with MPT Sterling Heights Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Employees are trained on all significant Environmental aspects associated with their work.
  • Conduct work in compliance with the applicable Environmental and Safety regulations, ISO14001/ISO 45001 standards and MPTSH procedures

Education and/or Experience:
  • 1-2 years metal stamping press and die setting experience.
  • Results-oriented team player, excellent attendance, high energy level and good attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment safely.
  • Ability to use gauges, tooling and other equipment used in die setting.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor such as bolting dies into the presses, etc.
  • Understanding of fundamental operation of press equipment and tooling.
  • Must be able to work required hours.
  • High School Diploma (grade 12 or equivalent) required.
  • Accountable for work performed.
  • Capable of lifting 50 pounds and able to handle all preform tooling.
  • Must meet all preform training requirements and be able to operate preform machine and make adjustments with minimum support.
  • Able to work overtime or off-shift as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with people at all levels within the organization.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have technical math skills and possess a good mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in written and oral English.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others.

Additional Skills:
Language Skills: Ability to read and write and comprehend instructions in English and correspondence such as safety rules and operating instructions. Ability to document forms as required by position. Must be able to communicate in both written and spoken English.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of AS400 and ability to use bar code labeling system.
Reasoning Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Communication Skills: Ability to use active listening. Ability to give positive and constructive feedback effectively.
