As the Application Technologist, you will participate in the implementation of optical fiber characterization benches.

Interested? In this position, you can expect to:

  • Format the test benches previously conceptualized by the project managers.
  • Carry out assemblies based on project manager’s plans.
  • In collaboration with the team, carry out validation tests and then make the required adjustments.
  • Once the assemblies have been completed (or test benches), set up the operating procedures.
  • Train technicians in the use of fixtures or test benches.
  • Train the maintenance team on the mechanical maintenance of new equipment and on validation after intervention (preventative or repair) on existing equipment (5% of the time).
  • Calibrate optical devices.
  • If necessary, ensure the optimization of certain equipment and/or procedures.
  • At the request of product line managers, project managers or production, simplify or remove certain tests for reasons of cost, efficiency, non-necessity, etc.
  • Participate and assist project managers in their ideation process. Collaborate in the acquisition of equipment by conducting various research on what is available on the market, costs, quotes, etc.
  • Compile performance date over time to support the engineer.
  • Test the repeatability of the measurements carried out.
  • Ensure the laboratory cleanliness, components and equipment classification, as well as parts inventory.
  • Achieve any other related task.

We are looking for someone with :

  • College degree in optical or physical technology
  • 5 years of experience in a similar position
  • Experience in the manufacturing of technological products, including the operation of laboratory or production equipment
  • Knowledge in fiber optics, fiber optic or laser components (preferable)
  • Basic concepts in electronics or optics
  • Computer knowledge (Office Suite, LabView), ease of integration of basic IT concepts
  • Intermediate English (ability to read English) and flulent in French
  • Experience in laser assembly (an asset)
  • Experience in optical fiber fusion (an asset)
  • Precision work skills requiring fine dexterity
  • Be able to comply with rigorous methodical processes
  • Demonstrate autonomy, rigor, initiative and critical thinking
