Job description

Weyerhaeuser - Grayling OSB manufacturing facility is seeking an Operations Manager to be an integral member of the site leadership team in Grayling, MI. The Operations Manager is responsible for safely leading the production team to exceed our operational excellence goals.
The operations manager must have a solid understanding of manufacturing processes along with the ability to share this knowledge to safely drive continuous improvement.
This is a full-time, exempt position that operates as a member of the mill leadership team. The Operations Manager will spend time in both an office setting and operational setting which may include hot, cold, wet, dry, dusty, and humid conditions in a wood products OSB manufacturing environment. This role may periodically require extended or varied hours to accomplish tasks and provide support to the mill.
Key Functions:

  • Role model caring safety leadership.
    Assist in developing safety strategy and provide the leadership to execute the strategy
  • Lead/develop manufacturing area managers in a manner that drives continuous improvement in both mill performance and organizational design. This includes following structured process of setting performance targets, providing performance appraisals & individual development plans
  • Ensure documented training & mentoring for production team members, including safety, pay for skills advancement, individual development plans and performance management
  • Identify future leaders within the plant and support their leadership development
  • Act as an open-minded change agent that leads the organization towards an innovative, highly involved work system
  • Executing reliable processes to maximize production of quality product to fulfil customer needs
  • Lead operator driven reliability processes to support manufacturing excellence
  • Work cooperatively with site Lead team department leaders to achieve site success
  • Develop and execute strategies to improve reduce costs
  • Help set non-capital and capital improvement strategies

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in applicable field preferred/Technical School Diploma
  • At least 5 years of successful manufacturing/maintenance leadership experience
  • Application and knowledge of LEAN manufacturing tools
  • Experience with Maximo and/or SAP
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal and electronic communications skills
  • Passion and ability to lead and empower work teams, and set expectations
  • Proven ability to drive strong safety and financial performance
  • Ability to work tactical issues as well as possess strong planning and analytical skills

Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $98,800 to $148,200 based on your level of skills, qualifications, and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 10% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours.
