Job Summary

To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we're looking to add a/an Lead Electrical Test Technician in USA, Fontana Ca.

Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Assistant Manager the Lead Electrical Test Technician is responsible for leading a team of employees in completing electrical testing of manufactured projects. In addition, this role will complete complex electrical testing of products during the manufacturing process based on established testing procedures.

What a typical day looks like:

  • Oversees the work of assigned team employees.
  • Addresses minor discipline problems with team members; refers more serious cases to the supervisor.
  • Assists with the planning and preparation of training for new team members.
  • Collaborates with team members to discuss upcoming work assignments; delegates assignments based on team members skills and experience.
  • Assists team members with technical issues or advanced problems with given assignments
  • Partners with supervisor or engineering manager to resolve any issues that arise within department.
  • Monitors testing status daily; gathers feedback from all test technicians.
  • Follow AC/DC schematics and wiring diagrams to perform testing of main electrical distribution AC/DC systems for power distribution control houses and panels.
  • Work closely with engineering and production team members to ensure accurate, efficient and timely execution of required testing work
  • Be able to troubleshoot assembly, wiring and testing problems
  • Performs full functional testing on various circuits including HVAC system, lighting, receptacles, fans, fire alarm systems, battery system, and meggering of cables.
  • Perform complete testing including current/voltage injections, Hi-Potential Testing, I/O checks and circuit breaker simulation testing on Relay Panels and Switchgear.
  • Perform Factory Acceptance Testing with customer as required.
  • Perform customer site visits to troubleshoot and resolve any field issues that may arise.
  • Drafts detailed technical reports to present findings; based on findings, recommends modifications needed to correct production problems
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

The experience we're looking to add to our team:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree in electrical engineering or related field required. Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
  • At least 4 years of experience in power distribution electrical testing or related field
  • Relevant experience leading a team.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and single line diagrams.
  • Knowledge in testing of three phase AC and DC control circuits.
  • Knowledge in testing protection relays and switchgear.
  • Knowledge of power distribution, breakers, current and potential transformers, protection relays, and switchgear.
  • Familiar with protection relay software such as Schweitzer, AcSELerator and GE Enervista UR.
  • Good working knowledge of standard electrical testing and measuring equipment
  • Knowledge of Electrical Safety Procedures and NEC Codes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to discuss product flaws in a constructive and positive manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to prepare test reports and proposals.

What the physical requirements are:

  • Periods of standing, walking, and sitting at a desk using a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at a time
  • Must be able to traverse production facility to complete testing
  • Ability to travel to customer sites when necessary.
  • Must wear PPE, such as gloves, safety glasses, hard hat, and ear protection, while working on the production floor
