Role Description The NETA Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Athens, AL. This position is responsible for performing field testing, inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting on electrical power systems and related equipment in accordance with NETA standards and client requirements. Daily work includes executing acceptance and maintenance testing on switchgear, transformers, breakers, protective relays, and associated equipment, as well as documenting test results and preparing clear, accurate reports. The technician will assist with commissioning activities, power system studies support, and outage planning, while adhering to rigorous safety procedures and industry regulations. This role also involves collaborating with engineers and project managers, interacting with clients on-site, and occasionally mentoring less experienced technicians.
Qualifications
  • Experience with electrical power system testing, inspection, and maintenance in industrial, utility, or commercial environments.
  • Knowledge of NETA standards, applicable codes (e.g., NFPA, OSHA), and best practices for high- and medium-voltage equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, equipment drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Skill in using test equipment such as relay test sets, insulation resistance testers, circuit breaker analyzers, and power quality meters.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including understanding of lockout/tagout, arc flash boundaries, PPE requirements, and job hazard analysis.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for reporting, documentation, and coordination with clients and team members.
  • Proven ability to work on-site in varying field conditions, manage time effectively, and travel as project needs require.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical trade school, associate degree in electrical or related field, or military electrical training preferred.
  • Current or prior NETA certification (Level II or above) strongly preferred, or willingness to obtain NETA certification within a defined timeframe.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Open to travel to various locations throughout the country with stays up to 30 days.
