Description
Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring an adjunct instructor in the Electrical Systems Technology Program. The Adjunct Instructor is responsible for course preparation, delivery, grading, and records management. The Instructor will work closely with the Discipline Chair on matters related to and for the benefit of the department and its students.
This is a continuous posting for the 2026-2027 academic year and may close at any time without notice.
Examples of Duties
  1. Meet with class for assigned hours and deliver relevant instruction in lecture and laboratory settings as appropriate; file appropriate class cancellation forms as needed when class cannot meet, scheduling make-up work or meetings consistent with college policy.
  2. Maintain class electronic attendance records in a timely fashion.
  3. Develop and maintain a consistent policy for course evaluation (grading).
  4. Communicate course expectations to students in a consistent and understandable manner, e.g., by developing a syllabus consistent with college policies.
  5. Respond to student questions and complaints as appropriate, and in a manner consistent with college policies.
  6. File electronic grade reports in a timely fashion, consistent with deadlines.
  7. Maintain course records as needed for documentation of grading and for use in tracking of student learning outcomes as needed.
  8. Assist in maintenance of safe and orderly instructional spaces as needed.
  9. Must complete all mandatory work related and professional development training.

Minimum Qualifications
Associates Degree in Electrical Systems Technology or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant job experience.
Work Experience:
At least two years of work experience in residential and industrial wiring or a related field.
Supplemental Information
  1. Excellent understanding of scientific and technical principles relevant to the Electrical field.
  2. Plan, implement, and evaluate instructional activities for PLC-controlled systems, incorporating classroom and lab-based learning in the use of Logic Pro (PLC simulation software), associated equipment, and foundational theory.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of relevant disciplines, basic electrical wiring materials, and installation.
  4. Knowledge of proper clothing, safety, tool use, and maintenance.
  5. Evidence of strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and effective oral and written communication/public relations skills.
  6. Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  7. Ability to make presentations to classroom audiences at an appropriate level.
  8. Computer skills necessary for the maintenance of course records and communication with students, program/departmental faculty, and staff.
  9. Personal integrity, honesty, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  10. Understanding of the mission, goals, and objectives of a community college.
