Job description

Role: Electrical Designer

Industry: Pharmaceutical, Life Sciences & Industrial Facilities

Location: Raleigh-Durham area (time split between in office HQ and on job sites)

Type: Direct Hire/Permanent Placement

Starting Salary: $100,000-$140,000+ (depending on years of experience, certifications, etc.)


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of electrical design experience supporting industrial, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, manufacturing, or process facilities.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD for electrical design and BIM coordination.
  • Experience designing low-voltage systems including telecommunications, security, access control, CCTV, and structured cabling systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical power distribution systems.
  • Experience preparing:
    • One-line diagrams
    • Panel schedules
    • Load calculations
    • Short-circuit calculations
    • Lighting calculations
    • Electrical equipment layouts
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Understanding of grounding, bonding, lighting, fire alarm, and life safety system design.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary project environment.


Responsibilities:

1) Electrical Design & Engineering

  • Develop electrical system designs for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, and industrial facilities.
  • Design medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems, including service entrance equipment, switchgear, transformers, panelboards, motor control centers (MCCs), and distribution equipment.
  • Produce and maintain electrical one-line diagrams, riser diagrams, and power distribution schematics.
  • Perform electrical load calculations, short-circuit analysis, voltage drop calculations, and lighting calculations.
  • Size feeders, branch circuits, conduits, grounding systems, and electrical equipment.
  • Prepare detailed panel schedules and equipment schedules.
  • Develop lighting layouts and photometric designs for manufacturing, laboratory, utility, warehouse, and office spaces.
  • Design grounding and bonding systems in accordance with NEC requirements and industry best practices.
  • Support the design of fire alarm, emergency power, standby power, and life safety systems.
  • Design and coordinate low-voltage systems, including:
    • Telecommunications
    • Structured cabling
    • Security systems
    • Access control
    • CCTV
    • Building automation interfaces
    • Network infrastructure pathways


2) Project Delivery

  • Support projects through all phases, including conceptual design, front-end engineering, detailed design, construction documentation, and construction support.
  • Assist with field investigations, site surveys, and construction administration activities.
  • Respond to contractor RFIs and support design clarifications during construction.
  • Deliver accurate, high-quality engineering documentation on schedule and within project budgets.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and company design standards.


3) Facility & Equipment Layout

  • Develop electrical equipment layouts and installation details.
  • Coordinate power requirements for pharmaceutical process equipment, cleanroom systems, laboratory equipment, HVAC systems, and utility systems.
  • Assist in equipment selection and specification development.
  • Coordinate electrical room layouts, cable routing, and conduit distribution systems.
