Responsibilities & Expectations: 

IPS is seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer to join our team in Cleveland, Ohio. The successful candidate will have experience with motor and/or generator design and /or repair and may support other sites within the North Region as needed for more complex issues. This role demands a blend of deep technical expertise, leadership, professionalism and project management skills to drive the development and implementation of innovative repair services and electrical designs.  This position will be responsible for performing RCFA to develop engineered solutions and for providing technical support for both coil manufacturing and traction motor repair, while also providing technical support and consultation to the Cleveland sales team.  Principal responsibilities and expectations include:

Unmatched Customer Service:

  • Actively participate in the IPS UCE (Unmatched Customer Experience) tiered meeting process
  • Provide electrical engineering and technical support to Cleveland Coil manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure that IPS solutions meet customer specifications, expectations, and applicable industry standards.
  • Assist with implementation of quality improvement actions
  • Ensure compliance with operating policies and procedures
  • Utilize Continuous Improvement Process Solution (CIPS) tools and Processes to deliver continued quality and productivity to our customers
  • Enforce strict safety protocols and compliance with regulatory requirements in all engineering and shop activities

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Electrical technical support to coil manufacturing and traction motor repair departments.
  • Reverse engineer motor and generator coil designs, including insulation systems.
  • Ensure that repairs meet customer specifications, expectations, and applicable industry standards
  • Assist with implementation of quality improvement actions
  • Develop and implement electrical repairs and stator winding practices training curriculum
  • Drive development of technician electrical work instructions
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with operating policies and procedures
  • Utilize Continuous Improvement Process Solution (CIPS) tools and Processes
  • Manage and support shop with capital improvements and integration of new capital manufacturing assets
  • Ensure rewinding process adheres to IPS PowerSeal and MegaSeal requirements and One-Way specifications
  • Stay informed on relevant IEEE/NEMA/IEC standards
  • Conduct thorough review of stator coil build-sheets.
  • Supervise both in process, and final acceptance tests to confirm compliance with IPS/customer specifications
  • Support North Regional with complex electrical issues when needed (~5%)

*Expected Travel: Up to 5% to customer sites

Qualifications and Competencies: 

  • B.S. or M.S. Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent required
  • Preferred qualification: 5+ years’ experience with electrical motor design, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting 
  • Experience performing RCFA to determine failure mode and FMEA’s
  • Experience with the design, manufacturing, application, repair, testing, maintenance, and diagnostics, of electric motors and generators
  • Ability to perform advanced diagnostic assessments to troubleshoot motor, generator and control issues with applicable test equipment
  • Ability to perform root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and develop technical solutions to OEM and Aftermarket design related problems
  • Provide technical phone support for customers
  • Write failure reports with critical technical analysis
  • Provide technical support to the sales team, participate in customer visits, provide customer and sales training
  • Ability to relate well with others in an ethical, professional, and knowledgeable manner
  • Strong proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to prioritize and maintain high degree of organization
  • Excellent time management
  • Ability to communicate technical data in a clear and concise manner
