Sr. Electrical Design Engineer

Elgin, Illinois, United States

About the Job

Will be tasked with conceptual design, component specification, system hardware design and programming. Manage high level projects from concept to production. Will work closely with other engineers and technical staff. Responsibilities also include providing engineering support for field service technicians and providing technical training at client facilities as needed. Supports the existing products and work within the constraints of existing methods and standards. Up to 20% domestic travel may be required, international travel is a possibility.

Responsibilities

  • Requires the ability to apply the principles of electrical and electronic theory and related experience to design, program and troubleshoot state of the art packaging machinery.
  • Develop and test new designs as needed and develop high speed automation packaging machine projects.
  • Manage projects from inception to completion.
  • Ability to design complete electrical systems from concept to prototype and production.
  • Knowledge to read and troubleshoot ladder logic within motion controls. including programming of servo drives (AB).
  • Must have design problem solving skills and be able to work in a team environment.
  • Travel to customer locations to assist in software or hardware repair or installations. Amount of travel approx. 20%
  • Create wiring schematic, program diagrams, and complete bill of materials.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Works well within a team environment but can also be self-directed when required.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Attention to detail and pride in work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience in capital equipment design and service.
  • 7-10 years of related high speed automation and electrical design experience.
  • Proficient in the use of CAD software for electrical design documentation utilizing SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD or similar system.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design of Stepper motor, Servo, and touch screen controlled capital equipment systems or machinery. Specific experience in the Packaging industry a plus.
  • Excellent knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC systems.
  • Good organization, communication, analytical and project management skills. Good verbal and written skills utilizing office software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Valid drivers license and ability to travel, up to 20%, including internationally
