Position: Electrical Design Engineer
Department: Engineering / Electrical Design
Reports To: Engineering Manager
Location: Concord, ON
Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary: $100,000 – $130,000 CAD

About the Role

A leading manufacturer of custom automation equipment is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join its growing Engineering team.

This is an exciting opportunity to design and develop advanced electrical systems for high-speed industrial automation equipment used in manufacturing and packaging environments. Working closely with Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Software Development, and Manufacturing teams, you'll play a key role in delivering innovative, world-class automation solutions from concept through commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical schematics and layouts for custom industrial automation systems
  • Select and specify electrical components, instrumentation, and control hardware that meet performance and safety requirements
  • Prepare and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs), electrical drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical design and system integration issues throughout the project lifecycle
  • Support equipment assembly, wiring, testing, commissioning, and system validation
  • Collaborate with Mechanical, Controls, Software, and Manufacturing teams to optimize machine performance and reliability
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, operating manuals, and electrical support documentation
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable electrical codes, industry standards, and customer requirements
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, reliability, and manufacturability

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of electrical design experience in industrial automation, machine building, or custom equipment manufacturing
  • Strong experience designing electrical systems for automated machinery
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or SolidWorks Electrical
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Servo motors
    • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
    • Motor controllers
    • Relays
    • Industrial electrical wiring systems (low to high voltage)
  • Experience specifying and integrating electromechanical components including pumps, sensors, valves, blowers, and compressors
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, or Modbus
  • Familiarity with PLC, HMI, and Motion Control systems (Beckhoff and/or Codesys experience is an asset)
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced engineering environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with custom machine design or packaging automation equipment
  • Experience supporting equipment commissioning and startup
  • Knowledge of industrial safety standards and machine electrical regulations
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary engineering teams

Travel Requirements

  • Ability to travel occasionally to customer sites for equipment installation, commissioning, and technical support
