Summary/Objective
The Regulatory Compliance Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the company's beverage dispenser products comply with all applicable federal, state, and international regulations. This role involves leading regulatory strategy, managing compliance processes, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes that could impact the business. The Regulatory Compliance Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, quality assurance, legal, and operations to ensure compliance throughout the product lifecycle.


Key Performance Indicators
Minimize Audit findings by maintaining accurate agency files

Deliver new, or updated, Agency Files in accordance with agreed upon schedule.

Collaborate with teams to ensure clear understanding of the requirements for specific Agency approvals.


Essential Functions
Ensure products meet all relevant product safety requirements for their intended usage and market placement. Certifications may include UL (Underwriters Laboratories), CSA (Canadian Standards Association), IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) standards, Electronic Immunities and Emissions (EMC, FCC and similar), as well as local regulations or deviations.

Construct product safety technical files in support of agency approvals.

Maintain certification as products change or enhancements are added (e.g., merchandising options, digital displays, IoT technology).

Ensure products meet all relevant food safety requirements to ensure safety, product quality, and hygienic design of food-preparing products within the country for their intended usage and market placement. Certifications may include NSF standards, EC 1935/2004 regulations for materials and articles intended to meet food, China Food Safety Standards, and Japanese Food Safety Standards.

Maintain and update food safety documentation and certifications.

Conduct risk assessments and implement control measures to mitigate food safety hazards.

Coordinate and schedule all compliance related testing with regulatory testing agencies and communicate requirements of those agencies with Engineering and other internal parties.

Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure compliance with product safety and food protection and sanitation standards and validate acceptability of supplier certification documents as they relate to our applications.

Collaborate with product development teams to integrate safety and sanitation standards into product designs.

Prepare and submit documentation required for product safety and food safety certification.

Conduct regular audits and assessments to maintain product certification.

Facilitate regulatory agency audits and respond to any findings.

Track certification expiry dates and arrange renewals to prevent lapses in coverage.

Provide response to regulatory agencies or customers regarding product information, issues, or regulatory approvals.

Review marketing materials including product manuals as they relate to agency markings and regulatory compliance.

Collaborate with Engineering to ensure changes needed for regulatory compliance are implemented into existing products through Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and/or Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).

Review submitted ECOs, ECRs, and Deviations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Promote good manufacturing practices (GMP) in all manufacturing facilities.

Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies in compliance management.

Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance compliance efforts.

Develop and deliver training programs for employees on compliance standards and procedures.

Foster a culture of compliance and continuous improvement within the organization.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Good command and understanding or working knowledge of basic regulatory frameworks, general regulatory and internal control requirements as well as industry knowledge in all aspects of compliance.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to multitask, reprioritize, and respond to urgent requests.

Proficiency in compliance management software and tools.

Ability to communicate in Spanish is desired.


Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field required.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in compliance management required, preferably within the manufacturing of food/beverage equipment industry.

In-depth knowledge of UL, IEC, NSF, EC 1935/2004 regulations required.

Certification in compliance, such as NSF's Food Equipment Credentialing Exam or equivalent preferred.

Experience with ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems), or similar standards preferred.

Project management experience preferred.

Knowledge / experience working with ERP and PLM software

Work Environment
This job operates in a combination of lab and professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
