Summary

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Systems, Software & Solutions Project Operations team in Calgary.  Working on multiple project teams, providing technical project support, knowledge and experience relating to automation control systems and instrumentation solutions, the successful candidate will be a driven, self-starter who enjoys a challenge and is motivated to meet and exceed customer expectations.  This role will report to the Operations Manager.

This is a temporary 12-month term position, located in Calgary.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Act as an integral component of the project team, working with project management and engineering personnel.
  • Work with customers' engineers to define functional and specification requirements and manage customer expectations.
  • Take responsibility for the electrical aspects of the project, where the project scope includes, but is not limited to:
    • Design of electrical and control panels, cabinets, and junction boxes.
    • Low-voltage power distribution and control (600VAC and below).
    • Industrial electrical equipment buildings/Process skids.
    • Electrical design for both classified and non-classified areas.
  • Support projects through engineering design, integration, commissioning, and start-up activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable customer engineering and safety standards, practices, procedures, plant documentation requirements, and methods of installation.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., PM, CADD, Manufacturing, Sales).
  • Interface with trade subcontractors and sub-suppliers.
  • Create and maintain detailed project records.
  • Contribute to and support the development and evolution of design standards.
  • Understand project management processes.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Electrical Engineering degree and registered (or eligible to register) with APEGA as a P.Eng., P.L.(Eng)., or E.I.T. OR: Electrical Engineering Technologist diploma and registered (or eligible to register) with ASET as a P.Tech.(Eng.) or with APEGA as a P.L.(Eng.).
  • 3-5 years of electrical or control panel design/installation experience (considered an asset).
  • Professional Engineer designation with the ability to stamp drawings and documentation.
  • Experience with electrical control panel design (DCS, PLC, and VFD systems) is an asset.
  • Proven experience applying CSA electrical code standards (e.g., electrical equipment sizing, including conductors and breakers).
  • Proven experience designing power and electrical control schematics.
  • Working knowledge of equipment ratings (including voltage and short-circuit ratings), industry regulations, standards, and practices (considered an asset).
  • Broad understanding of instrumentation and control technology, along with common engineering tools and work processes.
  • Exceptional communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and work proactively in a fast-paced team environment while meeting tight timelines.
  • Continuous learner with a growth mindset, eager to stay updated on emerging technologies and industry best practices.
  • Entrepreneurial work ethic with a strong customer service focus.
  • Willingness to travel; valid driver's license required.
