Job description

Summary

Are you passionate about solving complex challenges and shaping the future of power generation? As an Electrical Engineer on our Electric Power team, you will lead the electrical design and execution of power generation projects, delivering reliable and sustainable energy solutions for utilities, IPPs, industrial facilities, mining operations, and other critical infrastructure clients.

Reporting to the Director, Electric Power, you will develop and review electrical designs, studies, specifications, and technical deliverables while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. As a technical leader, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, customers, utilities, and vendors to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions. We're looking for a proactive problem solver who takes ownership and thrives in a collaborative environment.

Principle Responsibilities and Duties
  • Support the business development team in determining suitable grid interconnect approach, switchgear, transformer and MCC's for our powerplant solutions.
  • Prepare LV, MV, and HV Single Line Diagrams for power generation solutions and systems with an emphasis on protective relays, metering, and grounding requirements.
  • Detailed design of paralleling generator schemes including protection settings.
  • Prepare electrical schematics/wiring diagrams for power distribution and control of engine auxiliaries and other auxiliary equipment such as lighting, exhaust fans.
  • Create load lists and electrical equipment sizing.
  • Perform arc flash hazard analysis coordination of protective devices.
  • Specify electrical equipment based on application of engineering judgement and electrical code and standards.
  • Review vendor equipment drawings and create interconnect drawings to ensure accurate connections and scope of supply is met.
  • Create Electrical Bill of Materials and release for purchasing.
  • Review interconnect agreements with utilities either directly or on behalf of customers.
  • Prepare electrical construction drawings and specifications in conjunction with our in-house mechanical, architectural, and civil/structural design teams.
  • Prepare electrical construction scope of work documents for the purspose of obtaining proposals/bids from contractors.
  • Manage and consult with external suppliers and contractors to clarify specifications and scope of supply of equipment.
  • Inspect contractor work to verify compliance with "Issued For Construction Drawings".
  • Assist in the programing and commissioning of electrical equipment.
  • Liaison with other team members, both in the office, and at site, in responding to requests for information during project execution.
  • Communicate technical information to service groups and customers both locally and ย overseas.
Qualifications
  • Current registration as a P.Eng. in a Canadian province with a minimum of 5 years of experience in power system design.
  • Strong working knowledge and application of Canadian Electrical Code, including sizing of conductors, protection device selection, installation methods, and other code applications.
  • Understanding of electrical power generation and synchronizing controls in systems that utilize spark-ignited, recip engines.
  • Working knowledge of power distribution circuits with voltages classfied as LV, MV, and HV.
  • Ability to design schematics for power distribution Single Line Diagrams, Motor Controls, industrial building electrical systems, and protection and control systems.
  • Experience specifying power equipment such as transformers, switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, and associated systems.
  • Knowledge of power distribution, essential power systems including generators and UPS, substations, transformers, metering, primary and secondary switchgear, motor control and motor control centers.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Knowledge of using electrical engineering application software like ETAP to study relay coordination, load flow, short circuit, harmonic and motor starting analysis.
  • Experience with the design and specification of power generation systems for simple cycle, heat recovery, distributed generation, and RICE projects is an asset, but not required.
