Job Summary

The Junior Electrical Engineering Technologist will work with the engineering and design teams to create electronic (CAD) working plans, technical drawings, and documents for various residential, commercial and industrial projects. This individual will prepare engineering sketches and design calculations for power distribution and roadway lighting systems.

Education & Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma from a recognized technical institution.
  • TT designation, or eligible for registration with ASET.
  • 1-3 years of design experience in electrical power transmission and distribution systems and power and lighting systems would be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, AGI32, SpidaCalc, PLS CAD software is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with Canadian Electrical Code, CSA Underground and Overhead Standards, Alberta Electrical Utility Code, and other applicable industry guidelines and standards.
  • First aid and CPR certification would be considered an asset.
  • Valid driver's licence with no at fault accidents.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers and project managers in the preparation of engineering sketches, work packages and design calculations.
  • Review, interpret and implement utility and CEC specifications.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and electrical specifications.
  • Develop and utilize knowledge of design standards and procedures when completing drawings and deliverables to client and industry specifications.
  • Design and draft technical drawings including single lines, electrical layouts and cable tray runs, lighting, wiring schematics, cable/conduit schedules, lighting panel schedules, junction box layouts, control panel layouts, etc.
  • Maintain project records and documents.
  • Support the project team in designing the structure, operation, protection and control of electrical power transmission and distribution systems.
  • Support with the planning, design and specification of power and lighting systems.
  • Assist the project team in delivering high quality client service and, as experience is gained, engage with clients as needed to deliver top quality solutions.
  • Collaborate with senior designers and engineers for support and development on more challenging tasks.
  • Ensure all safety procedures and processes are followed with the goal of zero injury.
  • Work safely and follow all rules and procedures including attending and participating in safety meetings and completing all required safety orientation and training.
  • With senior staff, travel to client sites for project scoping, verification, construction support and meeting with clients as needed.
  • Completion of other relevant duties as required.
