Job description

As an Engineer I - Planning, also known as a Distribution Engineer, Utility Planning Engineer, or Systems Engineer, at Toth & Associates, you will work on all aspects of planning studies for electric utility systems across the US by modeling their electric grid to ensure reliable power quality under a variety of stressors, such as load growth due to vehicle or building electrification, deployment of solar and battery systems, contingency analysis for the loss of a normal source, or system protection during fault conditions.

You will be responsible for performing different studies to analyze the electric grid's response and author reports to effectively communicate the results, often working in a collaborative environment with Transmission Planning Engineers or Transmission and Substation Design Engineers to properly scope required system upgrades.

This is an entry to mid-level position that will receive in office mentorship.

  • BSEE from an ABET-accredited engineering program is required
  • Solid working knowledge of electric utility concepts, such as power factor, load factor, per unit, coincident demand
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints
  • Familiarity with the NESC and RUS standards as they relate to distribution planning
  • Familiarity with Milsoft, CYME, Synergi, PowerWorld, Aspen
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications (especially Excel)
  • EIT certification or ability to obtain EIT within 6 months
  • Proficiency in writing and providing support documentation for engineering calculations
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
