Description
Incumbent serves as a writer and editor for the OAG; written material may include prepared remarks, news releases, op-ed pieces, social media content, and related material for publication and internet distribution. These duties may occasionally overlap with other staff members' specific duties. The Speech/Creative Writer will work with the Director of Communications and team members to execute the overarching vision that comprises the OAG's external content. Position involves the following specific duties.
Examples of Duties
  • Develops executive communications (speeches, news releases, op-ed pieces, social media content, etc.) for senior level OAG executives.
  • Develops content to explain important and complex policies to key stakeholders
  • Assists the Director of Communications as a writer and editor, with responsibility for helping set and maintain guidelines for the editorial tone and style of communications content.
  • Works with the Communications Director and team to execute a plan to keep content fresh and current.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Communications, provides support on major external communication materials (including social media) to ensure consistent, high-quality and strategically aligned messaging.
  • Reviews and edits OAG materials for grammar, punctuation, spelling and style.
  • Provides quality review of documentation and presentation materials. Serves as a technical adviser on written and editorial policies.
  • Works with the Communications team to support public relations, communications, and campaigns.
  • Works with Constituents team to help craft and edit responses on a variety of topics.

Typical Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, but not required or at least 6 years of applicable experience in communications, media relations, etc.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
