As a Perioperative Educational Program Coordinator, you will work in conjunction with the Professional Development Manager to plan, implement and evaluate departmental orientation and education activities for clinical and support caregivers.This position isa great wayto share your knowledge and skills with other caregivers while creating opportunities for others to learn and grow. There are multiple options for professional development in this role, such as certifications, advanced education, distinguished educatorcertificateand simulation fellowships.This position will support all perioperative areas at Akron General, including two Ambulatory Surgery Centers located at Bath and Lodi.
A caregiver in this position works7:00am to 4:00pm. This role requires travel to Bath and Lodi facilities as well as to CC Main Campus or other locations as needed.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Planandimplementorientation for new hires.
- Assisteducationcaregiversin assigning unit preceptors.
- Assistininterviewingnewcaregivers.
- Completeprobationary performance evaluations for new hires andparticipatein annual evaluations with unitmanagers.
- Coordinate continuing education and training programs and staff development within the department.
- Assistin coordinatingprograms withlocalcolleges and universities.
- Perform patient care up to 20% of work time inareaof clinicalexpertisein order todemonstrateclinical competence and be able to teach others.
- Activelyassistthemanagement team with ensuringcaregivercompliance with regulatory requirements.This may include training and recertification for CPR, ACLS, annual education on fire safety, diversity, code management,HIPPAAand coordination of TB testing.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Bachelor ofscienceinnursing(BSN).
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
- If performing moderate/procedural sedation must have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 6 months of hire.
- Two years of perioperative experience required.
- Demonstratedexpertiseina clinicalspecialty with current patient care competence.
- Knowledge of adult learning theory, motivational strategies, change theory, group process skills, leadershipstrategiesand teaching.
- Demonstrated computer skillsutilizingclinical systems (Epic/Optime) and Microsoft applications (Excel,Wordand PowerPoint).
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Master's degree.
- OR background
- OR Circulator experience
Physical Requirements:
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- Requires working under stressful conditions of working irregular hours.
- Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum Annual Salary: $69,600.00
Maximum Annual Salary: $106,132.50
