TERMS OF
EMPLOYMENT: The Special Education Teacher provides individualized and group instruction to incarcerated high school-aged students and young adults within the correctional education setting. The teacher is responsible for delivering standards-based instruction, implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), promoting academic achievement, and supporting students' social-emotional growth while maintaining compliance with educational, special education, and correctional facility regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS,
EXPERIENCE AND
COMPETENCIES:
Valid State Teaching Certification in Special Education
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or related field required (MA preferred).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
AND ABILITIES:
- Deliver instruction aligned with New York State Learning Standards and high school graduation requirements.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with federal and state special education regulations.
- Conduct academic assessments and collect data to monitor student progress toward IEP goals.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, abilities, and educational backgrounds.
- Collaborate with correctional staff, school administrators, counselors, psychologists, related service providers, and community agencies.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work is performed within a secure correctional facility.
- Must comply with all facility security procedures and requirements.
- Frequent interaction with incarcerated youth and young adults.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and appropriate boundaries in a correctional setting.
EVALUATION: Assistant Superintendent for Educational Programs
GRADE LEVEL: Secondary
SALARY: $60,000 - $85,000
