What is an EDI analyst?

An EDI Analyst is a professional who manages and maintains Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) systems that allow organizations to exchange business documents electronically in standardized formats. Their responsibilities include setting up EDI solutions, troubleshooting data transmission issues, working with trading partners, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. EDI Analysts play a crucial role in optimizing supply chain operations and improving data accuracy by automating the exchange of information between companies.

What does an EDI analyst do?

EDI stands for electronic data interchange. As an EDI analyst, you manage the systems that exchange data within a company and between the company and other entities. Your duties include customizing and configuring systems that process transactions. You may also acquire data about customers and business processes. You assess the technical needs of your employer or client and create a plan to meet those needs using automation, software, and EDI applications. You then implement the plan, test the systems, and make adjustments if necessary. Your responsibilities include using code like C++ to design or customize applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an EDI analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as an EDI Analyst, you need a strong understanding of Electronic Data Interchange standards, data mapping, and business processes, typically supported by a degree in information technology or a related field. Familiarity with EDI translation software, VANs, ERP systems, and relevant certifications like EDI Specialist are often required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help EDI Analysts manage data flow and resolve integration issues. These skills are crucial for ensuring seamless, accurate, and secure data exchanges between business partners, which supports operational efficiency.

What are some common challenges EDI analysts face when integrating new trading partners, and how can they be addressed?

EDI Analysts often encounter challenges when onboarding new trading partners due to differing data formats, communication protocols, and varying levels of technical expertise among partners. Successfully addressing these challenges involves thorough requirements gathering, clear documentation, and frequent communication to resolve mapping discrepancies and ensure compliance with trading partner specifications. Leveraging robust EDI tools and maintaining updated documentation can streamline integration and minimize errors, ultimately leading to smoother onboarding and long-term collaboration.

Job description

Your Impact

BOTE Paddleboard Company is seeking a full-time Sales Operations Analyst to be the operational engine behind our specialty dealer business. Candidate must be a process-minded individual who thrives in the unglamorous, mission-critical work of turning a sales conversation into a clean, on-time, fully-compliant shipment. Someone comfortable talking to the warehouse floor and working in a spreadsheet in the same afternoon, who sees a broken process and wants to fix the system. Candidate will report to the Director of Sales and be expected to work closely with Sales, Operations, the warehouse team, and CX. Strong analytical skills, hands-on operational instincts, and a builder's mindset are a must.

What You'll Do

  • Own order entry, any EDI transactions, and any routing guide compliance for the specialty dealer channel.
  • Manage account setup, price list maintenance, and terms in Microsoft Dynamics for specialty accounts.
  • Resolve post-sale issues - chargebacks, shortages, returns, disputes - and identify root causes to prevent repeat occurrences.
  • Partner directly with the warehouse team to optimize pick and pack routes, packing standards, and dealer-specific compliance requirements.
  • Track fulfillment KPIs (fill rate, on-time ship, error rate) and act on what the data shows.
  • Help launch and administer BOTE's CRM platform, then own day-to-day data hygiene, pipeline accuracy, and account records once live.
  • Document and continuously improve recurring sales processes - new dealer onboarding, sample requests, order exceptions, and account workflows.
  • Translate between Sales, Warehouse, CX, and Finance to turn dealer expectations into operational reality.
  • Maintain core operational dashboards and surface the data that helps Sales spot problems early.

What You've Accomplished

  • 1-3 years in sales operations, order operations, wholesale/retail account ops, or warehouse/fulfillment coordination
  • Background in consumer products and/or wholesale-to-retail businesses
  • Hands-on experience with order entry, EDI, and major retailer routing guides
  • Working knowledge of an ERP (Microsoft Dynamics preferred) and advanced Excel (pivots, XLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH, comfort with large datasets)
  • Strong written and verbal communication across all channels: in-person, phone, and written
  • Excellent time management with proven ability to multi-task and manage competing deadlines
  • Ability to work individually and in a team environment, including with overseas partners
  • Strong computer skills and adaptability learning new software platforms; PC, Mac, and standard office equipment
  • Dynamics 365 & PowerBI experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, not required

Suitable Candidates:

  • Passionate about the paddleboard industry and the lifestyle that the BOTE brand represents
  • Process-minded, self-motivated, and comfortable owning unglamorous work
  • Thrives in a fast-paced and high-energy environment
  • Fast learner who is willing to get their hands dirty - on a warehouse floor, in an ERP, and in a spreadsheet
  • Someone who fixes the underlying problem, not just the symptom
