Job description

Introduction

We are looking for a Junior Engineer to support the engineering team with the management and execution of Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).

The role will take ownership of the ECN process from initiation through to completion, working with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing and other teams to keep changes moving and ensure they are completed correctly and on time.

Alongside coordinating the wider ECN process, the successful candidate will also handle a number of straightforward engineering changes themselves.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage ECNs from initiation through to implementation and closure.
  • Lead regular ECN review meetings and provide updates on progress and outstanding actions.
  • Track ECNs, deadlines, approvals and actions across relevant departments.
  • Follow up with stakeholders and escalate delays where necessary.
  • Take ownership of straightforward engineering changes.
  • Support updates to drawings, BOMs, specifications, work instructions and other engineering documentation.
  • Work with Engineering, Quality and Manufacturing to ensure changes are implemented correctly.
  • Maintain ECN records, trackers and reporting.
  • Monitor ECN backlog, ageing and cycle times.
  • Use Excel, Power BI and Smartsheet to support ECN reporting and visibility.
  • Look for ways to improve the ECN process and related engineering workflows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • 2–3 years' experience in an engineering, manufacturing or technical environment.
  • Previous ECN experience is essential.
  • Good understanding of engineering change processes.
  • Comfortable working with engineering documentation, BOMs and technical information.
  • Confident leading meetings and working with different departments.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisation.
  • Proactive approach with the ability to follow up and drive actions through to completion.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

Desirable

  • Medical device or other regulated manufacturing experience.
  • Power BI, Power Query or Smartsheet experience.
  • ERP, PDM or engineering workflow system experience.
  • QMS or document control experience.
  • Continuous or process improvement experience.

The Opportunity

This is a good opportunity for an early-career engineer to take ownership of the ECN process while gaining further hands-on experience with engineering changes and manufacturing.
