Description
The Director of the Reading/Writing Learning Clinic reports to the Chair of Specialized Programs in Education and provides leadership for the clinic's operations, literacy programming, graduate student training, and research initiatives. The Director collaborates with faculty, supervises clinical activities, and works closely with educators, families, and university staff to deliver comprehensive literacy services while advancing the clinic's mission of education, community engagement, and innovative literacy practice.
The Director of the Reading Clinic• s responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Leads and manages the Reading/Writing Learning Clinic and its literacy practicum supporting New York State certification requirements.
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates exemplary literacy teaching practices, including developing assessment rubrics and supervising graduate interns and part-time instructional staff.
  • Coordinates practicum operations by recruiting and scheduling elementary, middle, and high school students to participate in fall, spring, and summer clinic sessions.
  • Aligns clinic programs and services with the mission of the Literacy Studies programs and the Saltzman Community Services Center's goals of education, community service, and research.
  • Develops and maintains community partnerships through outreach initiatives, district collaborations, and management of donor- and grant-funded programs.
  • Advances literacy research by mentoring graduate students and alumni and presenting scholarly work at professional conferences.
  • Oversees clinic administration, including budgeting, hiring, policy development, communications, marketing, scheduling, and compliance with record-keeping requirements.
  • Manages and maintains instructional materials, assessment tools, and educational technology resources.
  • Provides occasional Saturday supervision and maintains a flexible schedule during the fall and spring semesters to support clinic operations

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Literacy Education required.
  • New York State Certification as a Literacy Specialist preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering equity, diversity, and inclusion in an educational environment.
