Job description

Louisiana Bridge Builders (โ€œLBBโ€) is designing and building the new I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge in Lake Charles, Louisiana (USA) for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD). LBB will also be responsible for the reconstruction of interstate highway, various structures, ramps, and approaches for a 5.5 mile stretch between I-210 West End and Ryan Street.

POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY

The Water Truck Driver I is committed to supporting Louisiana Bridge Builders (LBB) by safely operating water trucks to control dust, support compaction activities, and maintain safe working conditions on bridge and roadway construction sites. This position ensures consistent water distribution to meet project specifications while adhering to all safety, environmental, and operational standards.

LOCATION

This position is based in Lake Charles, LA.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Operate water trucks to distribute water for dust control, soil compaction, and general site maintenance on roadway and bridge construction projects.
  2. Fill, transport, and discharge water safely and efficiently, ensuring even coverage and compliance with project needs.
  3. Inspect water truck daily, perform routine maintenance checks, and report mechanical issues promptly.
  4. Maintain accurate logs of water usage, mileage, and equipment condition as required.
  5. Assist site crews with moisture conditioning, cleaning, and other waterโ€‘related tasks.
  6. Follow all traffic control procedures and operate safely around workers, equipment, and active roadways.
  7. Ensure proper use of spray bars, hoses, pumps, and valves.
  8. Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle and ensure safe storage of equipment.
  9. Support general labor or equipment tasks when water truck operations are not required.
  10. Performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, & SKILLS FOR SUCCESS
  1. Effectively communicate in a positive and professional manner through written and verbal communications in all interfaces with customers/public, fellow employees, vendors, etc.
  2. Basic computer and tablet skills are preferred, with the ability to use everyday programs (such as email or simple forms) and an openness to learning new systems as processes change.
  3. Ability to work as a team member and exert initiative to work independently to reach a goal.
  4. Ability to embrace change in the workplace while encouraging others to seek innovative approaches.
  5. Ability to function effectively as a team player and collaborator.

  7. Knowledge of safe driving practices, Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and construction site safety.
  8. Ability to operate large commercial vehicles in tight or uneven terrain.
  9. Strong situational awareness and ability to work safely around heavy equipment and active construction zones.
  10. Ability to follow water distribution plans and adjust flow rates as needed for compaction or dust control.
  11. Ability to maintain a current and valid Class A or B Commercial Driverโ€™s License (CDL).
QUALIFICATIONS

At a minimum, the Water Truck Driver I must have 3+ years of experience operating commercial vehicles, ideally within roadway, bridge, or civil construction environments along with a valid Class A or B Commercial Driverโ€™s License (CDL), current Medical Examinerโ€™s Certificate, clean driving record in compliance with LBB & DOT Standards, and the ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screening. This role requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and complete all required safety training and certifications, such as OSHA 10. Experience with construction site operations, dust control procedures, and equipment maintenance is highly beneficial.
