Position Overview

This is an opportunity to join one of the nation's most active owner-developers and contribute directly to the design and delivery of large-scale hospitality and commercial developments across the United States. As a Plumbing Designer, you will play a critical role in developing plumbing and fire protection systems from concept through construction while collaborating with architects, engineers, contractors, and ownership teams to deliver high-performing projects.

Unlike traditional consulting environments, this position provides direct exposure to the ownership side of development, allowing you to influence projects throughout the entire lifecycle. You'll work alongside experienced engineering leadership while gaining valuable experience across hotel, multifamily, mixed-use, and commercial developments that shape communities nationwide.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop plumbing and piping system designs throughout schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration phases
  • Support fire protection system design, including wet-pipe sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and design-build coordination efforts
  • Produce detailed engineering drawings and construction documents utilizing AutoCAD and Revit
  • Prepare engineering calculations, specifications, and technical documentation
  • Coordinate closely with architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, vendors, and ownership teams
  • Participate in project reviews, quality control processes, and construction coordination activities
  • Conduct field observations and assist with construction administration efforts
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents
  • Evaluate new products, materials, energy-saving technologies, and cost-saving initiatives
  • Support the development and implementation of engineering standards and best practices
  • Participate in project meetings, coordination calls, and stakeholder discussions
  • Assist in maintaining project schedules and supporting successful project delivery

Required Qualifications

  • 3–10+ years of progressive experience in plumbing design, building systems engineering, or related disciplines
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, piping design, equipment selection, sizing, and layout
  • Working knowledge of fire protection systems, including sprinkler systems and fire pumps
  • Experience preparing construction documents and supporting field observation activities
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit required
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards including IPC, UPC, IBC, ASHRAE, and NFPA
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam and Bluebeam Studio
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and technical documentation abilities
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Willingness to travel to project sites, industry events, and training opportunities as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Mechanical Drafting, Building Systems Engineering Technology, or related field
  • Experience working on hospitality, hotel, mixed-use, or commercial developments
  • Familiarity with owner-side project delivery environments
  • Experience coordinating with design-build fire protection consultants
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency initiatives and sustainable building systems
  • Construction administration and project closeout experience
