What is Drupal?

Drupal is an open source framework that publishers and developers can use to manage content. The primary purpose of Drupal is to manage content for websites. Drupal provides the structure so that website developers can design and develop sites without extensive backend programming. Programmers and developers can use a base code in Drupal, which uses PHP, for application development as well. Drupal provides themes and frameworks that developers can then use to customize sites and publish content online for their employer or personal website.

What is a Drupal developer?

Drupal developers are professionals who specialize in building, customizing, and maintaining websites using the Drupal content management system (CMS). They work on a variety of tasks, including theming, module development, site configuration, and troubleshooting. Drupal developers use programming languages such as PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create robust and scalable websites. Their expertise is essential for organizations seeking to leverage Drupal's flexibility and extensive ecosystem for their web projects.

What are common challenges faced by Drupal developers when working on large-scale projects?

Drupal developers working on large-scale projects often encounter challenges related to site performance optimization, complex content architecture, and seamless integration with third-party systems. Coordinating with designers, content editors, and other developers is key to ensuring smooth workflows and consistent site functionality. Additionally, managing ongoing updates and security patches is crucial, as Drupal sites must remain stable and secure while evolving to meet changing business needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Drupal developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Drupal Developer, you need a solid understanding of PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and experience with Drupal site building and module development, often backed by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with Drupal-specific tools like Drush, Composer, Git, and potentially Acquia or Pantheon certifications is highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help developers collaborate with teams and translate client requirements into robust solutions. These competencies are vital for delivering secure, scalable, and maintainable Drupal-based websites that meet business and user needs.

Job description

About Pantheon

Pantheon WebOps Platform powers the open web, running more than 300,000 sites in the cloud for customers including Google, Princeton, Salesloft and Doctors Without Borders. Every day, thousands of developers and marketers create, iterate, and scale WordPress and Drupal sites to reach billions of people globally. Pantheon's multitenant, container-based platform enables organizations to manage all of their websites from a single dashboard. Organizations including Clorox and the United Nations drive results through accelerated development and real-time publishing using Pantheon's collaborative workflows.

The Role

Pantheon is transforming the systems that run our business, and our IT & Business Systems team is hiring a Delivery Lead to be its orchestra conductor. This role is deliberately scoped to our own team's portfolio, it is not a company-wide PMO: you will own the team's roadmap, orchestrate its largest programs day to day with implementation partners, and run its AI-supported intake process so every stakeholder stays informed. This is a high-visibility role reporting to the VP of IT & Business Systems, with the opportunity to build the delivery rhythm for an AI-first team that moves fast. If you love turning a busy portfolio into a clear plan, and you would rather be in the details than above them, this role is built for you.

What You Need to Succeed
  • Build and own the IT & Business Systems team's portfolio roadmap: planning, sequencing, capacity, and dependency management across the team's concurrent initiatives
  • Orchestrate the team's largest programs day to day, coordinating external implementation partners, internal systems leads, and business stakeholders against firm deadlines
  • Run the team's AI-supported intake process end to end: verify triage and qualification of incoming requests, route work to the right owner, and keep every requester informed at each step
  • Communicate relentlessly: weekly delivery status, launch communications, post-launch reviews, and a published team roadmap that partners across the company can follow
  • Manage risks, decisions, and escalations across workstreams; surface slippage early and drive it to resolution with the right owners
  • Coordinate vendors and implementation partners on scope, timelines, and deliverable quality
  • Build lightweight, repeatable delivery frameworks (requirements, success metrics, review cadences) for use within the team
What You Bring to the Table
  • 7-10 years of delivery management, across IT and business systems at B2B SaaS or high-growth technology companies
  • Experience running at least one major enterprise platform migration or replatform end to end (ERP, CRM, billing, or similar)
  • Demonstrated ability to run a broad portfolio of initiatives with a small team through ruthless prioritization and clean operating rhythms
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting to executives and translating between technical and business audiences
  • Player-coach instincts: as happy writing the requirements doc or chasing a dependency as running the review meeting, with genuine enthusiasm for AI-first ways of working
  • Experience managing systems-integration partners is a plus
What We Offer

We have all the usual perks and benefits but what we can really offer you is a fantastic work environment powered by an amazing team.

  • Industry competitive compensation and equity plan
  • Flexible time off, sick days, and 13 paid holidays
  • Comprehensive medical insurance including Health, Dental and Vision
  • Paid parental leave (plus fertility, adoption and other family planning benefits)
  • In-office workspace (San Francisco & Chicago)
  • Monthly allowance for wellness, reading and access to LinkedIn Learning for continued development
  • Events and activities both team-based and company wide that inspire, educate and cultivate

Compensation: $109,100 to $136,400 USD base salary

Pantheon is an equal opportunity employer and we welcome applications from all backgrounds regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, disability, or any other classification protected by law. Pantheon complies with federal and local disability laws and makes reasonable accommodations for applicants and employees with disabilities. If you need a reasonable accommodation due to a disability for any part of the interview process, please contact talent@pantheon.io. Pursuant to local and federal regulations, Pantheon will consider qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records for employment.
